HPV and low-grade dyskaryosis

I went for screening a few weeks ago (first time, I'm 24) and received a letter today to let me know that an appointment has been made for me for a colposcopy. I am HPV positive and have low-grade dyskaryosis. I have read as much information as I can find and feel that I pretty much know what to expect during the appointment and possible further appointments/treatment.

I have a few questions though:

1) does the fact that I've been identified as having HPV mean that I have a high risk form?

2) does anyone have any positive stories - did you manage to fight off the virus? As I assume everyone does, I hope I am in the 90% bracket who can fight off the HPV but of course I am worried that I won't be and what this could possibly mean for my future and any future partners.

Thank you x

  • Hi Alfiepug16 and welcome to the forum.

We have some information about screening results on our website just here but in regards to your questions about HPV I hope these HPV FAQs on Jo's cervical cancer trust will help.

Our nurses are very well informed in this area as well so if you'd like to have a chat with them about this then do do give them a call next week. They're available Monday - Friday (except tomorrow as it's a bank holiday) between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing you all the best with your colposcopy when the time comes Alfie.

    Kind regards,
