The Symptoms Persist.

Hello,
So, since January 2018, I have been experiencing severe stomach cramps, abdominal and rectal pain, bloating, as well as diarrhoea, blood and blood clots when I use the toilet. July of this year, I had a sigmoidoscopy to check for irregularities, and the result was just a few small benign polyps. Thus, the consultant whose care I was under discharged me with advice that I go to A&E if I should experience rectal bleeding again. Furthermore, he stated that, if I have haemorrhoids, then binding them wouldn't be possible due to COVID-19.

Those are the steps I have taken to this point, but during this current climate, I'm at a lost. I plan to make another doctors appointment, but I'm not sure what procedures can be conducted these days because of COVID-19.

In addition, the abdominal pain and bleeding only occur after I have had something to eat or drink. I have experimented with my diet to try and eliminate certain food types, but have discovered that it solely depends on the day and not on the food or drink I consume.

I've been feeling fatigued lately and sleeping a lot more than is usual or needed. I haven't lost any weight, but I'm not one for keeping track of my weight regardless so I can't be certain.

I don't know what to do next. Can anyone here offer some advice?

Respectfully,

  • Hello apearisyellow,

I think the best thing to do if you are still worried is to make an appointment to see or speak to your GP. Even with covid, they will still be talking to patients and therefore it might be worth mentioning that these symptoms are persisting. So don't hesitate to give your surgery a call if you feel it would reassure you to talk to your GP about these symptoms.

    Best wishes,
