Throat cancer

Hi all

My mum had to go into hospital yesterday with a lump in her throat. Doctor took a biopsy and said its 95% certain its cancer. She has not lost weight or her appetite. Im lost for words and just constantly on the edge of a teary breakdown.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the biopsy results ?

Thanks, take care everyone

  • Hello avah

I'm sorry to hear that you Mum is facing the possibility of throat cancer. It's understandable that you're feeling upset and worried about what this may mean for her.

Most people seem to have biopsy results within 2 weeks although this can sometimes vary. It's likely that the Consultant will arrange for your Mum to have other tests such as an MRI or CT scan.

You might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. I'm sure that they will be able to answer some of the questions you might have and offer some advice and support ahead of Mum's next appointment. They'll be back in the office on Tuesday after the bank holiday on 0808 800 4040 (Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm).

Do let us know how she gets on. We've quite a few members here who have been diagnosed with throat cancer and have now finished their treatments and we'll be able to try and put you in touch with them once you have a better idea about what Mum's options are.

    Best wishes,
