Hi everyone. I recently had a pelvic ultrasound to investigate why I had not had a period for 3mths. In the past this happened and my lining had thickened with benign polyps. I assumed my scan was going to show the same, however it came back showing a 6cm mass in the pouch of douglas. The report stated there was minimal fluid no vascularity and possible malignancy. So I was referred through rapid access to see a consultant and had my appt on the 19th. He ordered a ct scan and cancer marker bloods which were CA125 CA199 and a couple of others. I believe they were the ovarian cancer one, pancreas, intestine and colon bloods. I had the bloods the next day on the 20th and have my scan this fri coming, the 28th. I tried phoning for my blood results to be told they are in the awaiting results tray. So do the blood results not get looked at until scan results are ready? I had hoped that if the bloods were normal it would ease my mind a little. I asked the consultant why it looked potentially malignant on the ultrasound and he said other pockets were seen within the mass so that's why the report suggested investigations to exclude or confirm malignancy. He said the ct with check all surrounding areas and organs.
If it does turn out to be cancer, how long roughly before i get results? My mother had a call to return the next day before she had even arrived home from her scan! Mind you she was stage 4 cervical at diagnosis. Are they only that quick if it is advanced disease?
Thank you for reading.
