Endometrium 15.7mm

I've been on the pill for many years previously on combined but had auras so moved to Cerazette. I am 52 and have 4 children. I had visual disturbance a year ago and because l had 3 vadovagal episodes in 25 years was checked. They found a multi modular goitre but although 2.8cm at largest was not considered a worry. Over the last couple of years l have had occasional spotting, when l mentioned to my GP l was told that this could happen. Approximately 3 weeks ago l started spotting, some bright red, some dark and some fibrous bits. I had a phone consultation with GP a week ago, an ultrasound on Friday and was found that my endometrial lining was 15.7mm, abnormally thickened endometrial cavity with a heterogeneous echopatter and minimal vascularity. It's says a differential would be between endometrial hyperplasia and large polypoid formation although underlying  sinister pathology cannot be ruled out. I have been referred for an urgent consultation and am obviously concerned that it's something sinister. In the last couple of months l have been doing a large amount of walking, some weeks doing 45 miles in order to loose some weight during lock down. I was previously slightly overweight, 75kg and 5'6" now just under 69kg I have some aching, period like but unsure if this is from exercise or a long couple of drives last week! I was meant to get a call by today, but as yet haven't heard anything. I'm aware that hospitals around me aren't doing any investigations for a few weeks but also aware that this means that some underlying conditions are being missed.

  • Hello Cheshire1994 and welcome to our forum!

I hope that you did get that phone call in the end and that you won't need to wait to long to be seen by the specialist. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • I have just had my scan.  My endometrium is 16mm.  I have just had a hysteroscopy and biopsy and now awaiting results before I can book in for proceedure.  Been offered an ablation or hysterectomy.

  • Thank you for your message. Have spoken to consultant and waiting for an appointment for further investigation.

  • Thank you for your message, l'm waiting for an appointment for hysteroscopy after speaking to consultant. Hope all goes well.

  • Thanks.

Dont read any of the reviews of having an hysteroscopy.  I didnt have any pain during the procedure.  Ab cramps started building up as the day went on but bearable.  Walking also became slower but again rest for the rest of the day and you will be fine to carry on the day after

  • Hi Janew1

im keen to hear how you got on.

I was referred to gynaecologist with suspected vaginal cancer lump that turned out to be folliculitis but on having a transvaginal ultrasound they reported thickened endometrial lining 16mm

    i had breast cancer in 2015 - lumpectomy/ chemotherapy/ double mastectomy.

I was referred to the oncology gynaecologist who carried out a hysteroscopy on 5/3/21, found polyp in womb which was removed and still awaiting histology results. He mentioned hyperplasia although this isn't mentioned in the letter to gp.
he advised that with my history and with the results of the endometrial lining that I have a mirena coil fitted which was inserted straight away as part of the hysteroscopy

not to worried about histology report but saw your entry and wondered what your outcome was

    regards

    Di

  • Hi Lavender

I'm 53  coming up 54 but back when I was 51. My journey started.
not sure if you will get this message as some time ago.
I had a hysteroscopy in 2019 for 11mm lining all turned out clear and mirena coil fitted. I still bled monthly but very light for 3 years.
Then 2022 Feb I got breast cancer. Treatment finished End of June and mirena coil was removed. I bled heavy so was sent for transvaginal scan. Showing lining at 16mm. Now waiting for urgent referral. I am so scared this means more cancer.
Has anyone been ok after a thick lining x
