How do you get CT results? Is it different with covid

Had a CT urogram last Friday. I was told that as urology requested the scan, I will get the results from them (rather than from my GP).

But I don't understand what will happen. How does it work normally? Do they only see you face to face if they found something or see you again either way? And how has it changed now?

If I have cancer I don't want to be told in a letter or phone call. I just don't know what to expect.

  • Hello midnightcat

It is usual that the requesting Dr is the one that recieves the results rather than everything going straight to your GP in the first instance.
Prior to Covid19 it was unusual for us to have members post about having telephone appointments but this pandemic has forced the NHS to find new ways of working and telephone consultations and virtual appointments are much more the norm.

Having said that, things are changing all the time and clinics are re-opening and face to face appointments are resuming in more areas every day.

Regardless of if you are offered a face to face appointment or telephone consultation, try not to read too much into what this may mean for your results.
If you are offered a face to face appointment, it's possible that you may not be able to take a family member or friend with you. However if do have a telephone appointment and you're concerned then you could arrange for someone to be with you for support at the time.

Either way, I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your results.

    Best wishes,
