Breast clinic first appointment

Hi everyone,

I have my first breast clinic appointment next week but it's in the evening. I've read on alot of posts that sometimes you get results on the same day and if not usually someone tells them whether it's likely to be cancer or not based on what they see there and then.

Given that my appointment is late in the evening should I expect the same sort of information or am I likely to have to wait still completely in the dark for another week or longer until I know? Anyone who has had evening appointments I'd really appreciate knowing how it worked for you. As everyone here knows, waiting is the hardest part and given my circumstances and medical history this is all looking pretty bleak at the moment.

Thank you

    Hi Eliza,

Welcome to our forum. Please try not to get yourself in a state before you even make it to the breast clinic. A consultant can sometimes tell you whether or not they suspect cancer at your first appointment, but the majority don't give much away. This is because the only way to be certain is to wait for your biopsy results to come back. This usually takes 1-2 weeks.

When you are having an evening appointment, a lot will probably depend on whether or not the mammogram and ultradsound facilities are still open in the evening, or whether or not you may have to return fur further tests after seeing your consultant.

I hope that all goes well for you.

Please keep us posted. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I will be thinking of you

what are your symptoms and circumstances if you don't mind me asking

  • Thank you Jolamine,

Trying my hardest not to panic over the initial appointment. Thanks for the info you gave x

  • I have two lumps, one in my breast and one under my arm. I'm a kidney transplant recipient so the medication I'm on is known to cause cancer and my family history is not great. Just all going against me at the moment, hoping I'll have an indication of what this actually is before I leave my appointment next week.

    Hi Eliza,

I hope that your appointment went well. It sounds as if you already have a lot to cope with. Did you get any indication from yur care team and, what tests were done at the clinic?

This will be a worrying week, but I hope that you get your results soon.

Don't forget to keep us posted.

Hoping and praying for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you, I've just had an examination with my gp. I believe Tuesday will be another examination, mammogram, ultrasound and possibly a biopsy. I'm just hopeful that I'll have a clearer idea before I leave. Its only been 6 days from my first appointment to my clinic appointment and I'm already stressed beyond belief, can't really imagine having to wait another 7 or more days ontop of that.

Thanks again for your support x
