Lymphoma symptoms, swollen lymph nodes in neck and armpit.

So 4 days ago (Wednesday)  I felt awful, at first I thought it was corona virus which I'd trade for this fear. I have 4 cherry sized lymph nodes in my neck that have appeared out of the blue, then came the flu symptoms and 38 degree temperature. These symptoms have gone now, by Sunday but now I have another enlarged lymph node in my armpit, all of these are painful when moved and are movable not hard.  My doctor referred me to another doctor as he is sick and my appointment went on for 5 minutes, in which she preceeded to talk down to me and tell me to leave as I had a temperature 4 days previously obviously due to Coronavirus concerns! I said I was scared due to the lymph swelling as it can be serious, which she replied "do you think it's cancer or something" this worried me as I have a Fibrosadenoma in my breast  that I haven't had biopsied. If anyone could reassure me or advise what to do next I would be grateful.

  • Hi hanzt11,

I went through something similar with a nurse at my drs surgery a few months ago when I first found a lump in my right breast/armpit area. When I first called to book an appointment I was told I had to wait 2 weeks to see if it went down on its own. 2 weeks passed and it was still there so I booked in to see the nurse who didn't seem interested examined me and said that she didn't think it was anything to worry about as the lump moved and to monitor it over the next 6-8 weeks. In her words (if it's something bad it gets worse not better). Fast forward a month or so I was in the shower and I found a lot of my lymph nodes were swelled up in my right groin area, this really scared me and the next morning I went to A&E where they took my bloods and found something that needed further investigation so I was referred to haematology where I was then given an appointment for a ct scan which I just had on 6th August. During the time of waiting for my scan I've discovered many more lumps in my other groin, abdominal area, both armpits and breasts. I've also experienced a lot of weight loss over the past 2 years going from a size 14 to an 8 with no idea why, I have terrible chills and night sweats and I generally feel poorly most days. I've been given my date for my results and I am terrified. My advice to you is if you feel something is not right then be as pushy as you can to get it checked. In a very short space of time I went from 1 lump to more than I could possible count in 6 areas of my body. My father passed away from lhymphoma so it's a very big concern for me and as I say my advice is be persistent, this is your life, health and mental wellbeing being worried over something like this really affects your mind.
I hope you get your answers soon and that everything goes well x

  •  When my dad was diagnosed with high grade stage 4 lymphoma he had no swollen lymph nodes to feel (his were all internal) his symptoms were night sweats and itchy skin, he felt really well apart from them. He was only diagnosed as he had an MRI scan for his spondylitis in his back. He's still here and really well 2 yrs down the line!

swollen lymph nodes most of the time will not be lymphoma, they can be a sign of infection, especially if you're not feeling well. Saying that you should still get it checked again.

if I were you I'd get the covid test to rule that out, then make another GP appointment. Please get the covid test though, they're free and it's important to self isolate if you're showing any symptoms, even when the symptoms have past you should continue to self isolate for the 10 days, I understand your worry, but I can also understand the Drs frustration due to the covid symptoms.

I hope everything goes well, I have my fingers crossed.
