Can benign conditions mimic Breast Cancer?

Hi everyone!

After having my symptoms for two months, I'm at the point where I've diagnosed myself with inflammatory breast cancer. My symptoms came gradually and I'm still noticing changes everyday so it's getting harder to put down to a coincidence. My first symptom was a rash and dry skin, followed by nipple change, next dimples and swollen breast and most recently a dent between breast and underarm. I noticed the dent/line last night and instantly my heart dropped. I have read online that a dent is most likely caused by cancer. Ever since I noticed it I have been filled with dread as I feel like I have too many symptoms for it to be anything else. I'm only 19 and not sure how I would cope if it was confirmed I have cancer. Could this be benign or is cancer the obvious explanation?  Tegan Xx

  • Please go to your GP, you can't guess with out the proper tests.

the breast clinic and tests are not as scary as they seem, iv been twice once at 25- I was CONVINCED I had cancer after reading online and it turned out to be a cluster of cysts, didn't need any treatment. I'm there again now at 28, this time I needed a biopsy to check for cancerous cells.

i feel so much better since iv been and had the tests, the balls rolling now.

give your GP a ring tomorrow and get booked in!
I hope everything turns out ok.

  • Hi Tegan Just reading over your previous posts...did you manage to speak to your GP about a second opinion? Sadly, nobody on here can tell you if this is a benign condition...but my thoughts are that you take a very stern approach (if needed) with your GP and demand to be referred for a second opinion. You could even ask a parent/trusted older person to step in and contact your surgery to raise this as a concern. Will you be able to phone your GP tomorrow? xx

  • Hi Cat, thanks so much! I have previously been to the breast clinic where I was told no tests needed to be carried out due to my age. I will definitely get a second opinion though and push to be tested. Hope everything turns out okay with you! Tegan Xx

  • Hi Citygirl111, thanks for your reply! I am definitely going to phone my GP tomorrow and push to get a second opinion. My only worry is that it will take another 5/6 weeks to be referred as it is classed as non urgent. Maybe with my new symptoms this might not be the case, but I don't think I can face being in the dark for much longer! Tegan Xx
