Breast biopsy, how long did you wait for results?

Hi all,

I had a breast biopsy for a small lump on 6th August, was told that the radiologist thought it was a cyst but it didn't drain when she tried so she did biopsies.

I was given a follow up appointment for 20th August but received a letter on 11th saying my appointment had been moved to a telephone appointment on 25th August.

I am just wondering how long people's biopsy results are taking?

The wait is driving me insane!

Xx

  • I had mine done on the 12th, results appointment booked for 26th- so 2 weeks.

i think it varies hospital to hospital to be honest.

thw waits awful! I just want to know I hope you're managing ok x

  • Thank you for your reply CAT42 I am to take away. My original date was 20th which would have been 2 weeks but then they've changed it to 25th via telephone. In my head I am thinking they have my results and have changed to later and by telephone because its nothing to worry about. Then I think if they have my results and they are benign, why not just write that in letter and say they'll discuss it at the phone appointment!!

The wait is horrendous. How are you managing it?

Did they give you any indication when you were there what they thought it was?

    Hope you are ok

  • When my dad was diagnosed with lymphoma it was super quick! As in they told him he'd get the results of the scan within 2 weeks, he got them the same day! Same with his biopsy it was a couple of days and he was back in signing chemo consent. So if they're postponing results I'd think it's a good thing.

I'm managing ok, most of the time I try not to dwell but occasionally I get a massive wave of panic. My boobs still tender from the biopsy so that keeps reminding me, haha

They didn't say much, the radiologist told me she was going to insert a metal clip so they could find the lump easier in future but after she did the biopsy she decided she wasn't going to put it in, I can't decide if that's a good thing or not

    what about you? X

  • Yes Cat42 sounds like a good sign they didn't do the clip! Sorry to hear you have been through all of this with your dad, that is what I keep thinking, if it was bad I would know by now!

The doctor who did the ultrasound said she thought it was a cyst and she tried to drain it but couldn't get anything out so said she would need to biopsy it. No mention of clips or anything though.

Fingers crossed for both of us, it's so comforting knowing not the only one. My husband is great but just keeps saying stop worrying which doesn't really help! It's easier said than done isn't it?xx

  • Thank you, dads fighting fit again now! 5minths of chemo and he's now 3 months off being classed as cured, his last bloods and consultants appointments on my 29th birthday so he better be cured other wise I won't be happy! Haha.
my partners been great, but very annoying when they say don't worry,  I get the feeling if he thought otherwise he'd have abit of a breakdown about it, he's abit of a softie bless him.

i think it's sounding good for you. looks like a cyst, no clip and postponed results ticks all the right boxes for me.

doesnt stop your brain going to that small unlucky place though does it.

please let me know your results! And give me a message if you need to vent.

  • Fantastic that your Dad has come through it so well, it's amazing what they can do now.

And yes a special treat for your 29th!! Fingers crossed.

Thank you for your loveliness fingers crossed all is benign for you xx

  • Hi CAT42,

Hope you got good results back.

My biopsy results came back as inconclusive. It's all been very fast and I am now having the lump removed next week. More waiting but I know I will feel better when it is out no matter what it is.

    Xx
