If you have never noticed any change in this mole then there is every chance it will be fine. Your GP is just being thorough and ensuring that the dark colour isn't a worrying sign. Sometimes moles that look dodgy to a doctor turn out to be benign but they may be dysplastic (atypical) - this means that they have the ability to turn cancerous if not removed. So it's good that it's being checked out by the experts & hopefully it will turn out to be OK.

The only thing that helps getting through the wait for appointments is to distract yourself, whether it be work, hobbies, spending time with family/friends or doing something relaxing such as a pampering massage or trying meditation or mindfulness (plenty on YouTube). When worry starts to creep into your mind, tell yourself that there is no point wasting time worrying about something that may never happen & that you will deal with it if it does happen! Waiting is the hardest part because we aren't in control - once the appointment happens & if any tests/treatment are needed you will feel in control again because you know what's happening.

thanks so much for your reply. I seem calmer than I thought. A few years ago I had to go through the cervical screening for abnormal cells which thankfully were all clear, I think I learnt a lot by that experience. 
 

it sounds silly but I wear glasses but when I come out shower and put creams and things on I check moles frequently but never have my glasses on, it was the other day when I checked it and had my glasses on I noticed it in a different way! With no glasses it looks the same as normal but who knows! Note to self, wear glasses in future!!
