Mri - will I get results on the day or a few weeks later?

Hi everyone,

ive made a few posts on here and I am still suffering with symptoms such as persistant headache, nausea, fatigue, muscle twitches and pins and needles

i have an MRI booked for saturday morning at 7:30. 

I just wondered does any body know if something shows up that is serious will I be informed on the same day or do I have to wait a few weeks for the results?

    Hi Lucy,

    Unfortunately, you almost certainly won't get any results the same day. The radiographer who does the MRI scan will send it off to a radiologist who will interpret it (probably not on a weekend), then the multi-disciplinary team discusses it. In my area the multi-disciplinary team meets once per week. Then, you will have an appointment to receive the results.

    I suggest to ask the radiographer how long it's likely to take until you receive your results.

    The results of the MRI scan along with the actual footage is normally sent to the team who requested that, no results or images are discussed with the patients, hope it all goes well and you will get your diagnosis soon as to the issues you are experiencing.
