Concerned about my daughter

My daughter has discussed worrying signs/changes in her breast. She has shown me purple/ red bruising that comes and goes, right breast swells, pain in breast that she can't wear a bra, dimples. She has been to gp who has done blood tests - ? What ones and examined her. Gp says it's likely a blocked duct/gland which could be the result of taking cocodamol (which she takes for chronic abdo pain). He has not referred to breast clinic or arranged further follow up with him. I have checked all side effects relating to cocodamol and can't find anything which suggests this could happen......I am a registered nurse. I am concerned there may be more to this and that my daughter needs further follow up

  • Bloke here, but if you don't mind the advice, I would be asking your daughter to get a second opinion. It shouldn't make a difference but perhaps seeing a female doctor would help. If that still doesn't get any dice, be direct and ask for a refferal.

I've been bounced around by my GP a fair bit, suffering a little from white coat syndrome, for the last 3 months and I'm finally getting the scans I think I need, sadly my symptoms have continued to worsen during that time. I was told I didn't drink enough, exercise enough etc dispite doing plenty of both which has nothing to do with my glands or throat pain. I guess my rambling point is doctors are human, some are good at what they do and some aren't so good.

  • Thank you. Have spoken to a cancer nurse and she is in agreement that my daughter needs referred to breast clinic. She will be pushing for that now

  • Hello and welcome, I'm sorry you've had to find yourself here it's always such a scary situation to be in. I'm not diagnosed with breast cancer but for the last near on 2 years I've had worsening breast symptoms that won't go away, I thought I'd comment as some of your daughters sound similar to mine, although i can't offer a diagnosis because I'm still undiagnosed I just wanted to say there's so many different things it could be, I know it's so scary and worrying but your daughter is making the first steps, I agree that she should push to be referred sadly if she's young like myself (24) we can get palmed off but don't give up, she deserves answers. How long has this been going on for? Has she had any issues with her armpit or just the breast? I hope she can be referred and get the tests and then answers and of course pray they're good, crossing my fingers! If you would like to message me feel welcome to I know how hard it is being in this position. Please remember they're are so many benign breast changes that could be the cause and more so than others that are referred to the breast clinic will not end up having cancer, a lovely lady on here chris mentions often 8/10 breast lumps are benign. And from what I've seen most changes aren't cause for concern, but I'm so glad she's being proactive and getting it checked out.

    please keep us updated! Xx
