Fibroadenomas? Help I’m worried

Today was clinic day

2 lots of mammograms and an ultrasound, the lump I felt on left breast was found and a large one (I missed on examination) found on same breast underneath.

Had biopsies and a clip inserted and then had a further mammogram.

the consultant very blasé stated I had two Fibroadenomas and they were benign.
I asked how he could tell they were benign but he couldn't give me a straight answer and then said we will either ring or send a letter with biopsy results??

ive read they can be complex Fibroadenoma or can even turn out to be cancer.

Can they say they are benign without biopsy results?

  • Where abouts did you find your lumps

I'm awaiting seeing someone up the hospital for a new lump I'm absolutely bricking it and dont know what they're going to say I think they say the fibroadenomas in general are benign so in his professional opinion that's what he thinks... I just wait for the results and go from there hope your OK x

  • I found my lump at 12 o clock on left breast but they found a larger one underneath

I just wasn't expecting it I thought cyst I get why you are bricking it

  • How long do you have to wait for results hopefully not too long and they can rule out the horrible word xx

  • They have the multidisciplinary meeting on thurs but up to two weeks

  • Aww bless ya let me know how you get on xx

  • Hi,

I just wanted to pop on with my experience.

I found a lump almost two years ago - left breast on the outside. Got a referral to the breast clinic where I had an ultrasound (no biopsy) they declared it benign - either a lymph node or fibrodenoma - and sent me home.

I didn't feel right about the diagnosis, I have a small history of pre-40 breast cancer on my mums side (I was 36 then) and a bit of research made my think it was very very unlikely to be a lymph node (a doctor later agreed that was ridiculous). So I fought to get sent back, it took a massively stressful month but eventually they did another ultrasound and biopsy. Again, they said it was benign.

It took 3 months in the end from start to finish to get results back - it was a benign fibroadenoma.

My point is, they really can tell when something is benign. They have a huge amount of experience. That doesn't mean they don't like to check (and there will always be the exception) - they did say I should have had the biopsy to start with, unless it's an obvious cyst they always should. So you've done all the right things.

    Good luck! X

  • Hi no they can't say that without biopsy how I know all this because my aunts had this etc but she died of cancer I don't wanna scare you but my advice is to keep chasing up and don't let them take you for a fool they can have a rough guess of what it could be but they can not diagnose you with anything they do try take patients for fools like they have done to me I have got x6 tumors back again in my womb there's just so much going on and I know are stories is different but if I can can help and save someone's life and give them good advice I will do it while I'm alive I've went through this crap from gp so many times etc they have messed me around so much where last year when I had first load x6 polyps tumour taking out it was that bad I felt it wasn't for my partner at that time o wouldn't of had op I would have had cancer through my whole body and I would of been dead also now I'm going through it again because where they never done following scan after op so left it to long
