Dimple in breast when flexed

Hi,

before lockdown I noticed one armpit was a lot more swollen looking than the other. Something that really concerned me. I phoned one dr. (A male) who said I was young and had no reason to be concerned as he wasn't, this was over a phone! The second time I phoned a few months later as it was still bothering me I got a face to face appointment with a female student dr. She felt about said she wasn't sure what it could be but wasn't concerned about BC as again I'm young and to take anti-flammatory things.
Now 1 month on I've noticed if I put my hand on my hip or flex there's a faint indented line along the bottom of my left breast... the same side I have the swelling.

Ive made yet another appointment but again it's an over the phone one. Has anyone had an indent when flexing that hasn't been BC??

  • Hello R1993

I'm sorry to hear that you're still having concerns about changes in your breast. As things haven't settled it sounds sensible to get things checked out again by your GP.

If you'd like to chat through your concerns with one of our nurses ahead of your GP appointment then you're welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you're able to get some answers and reassurance soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi!

I'm also young (20) and for a while now i've had a dimple on my left breast, that was present even when i wasn't flexed. I had a phone consultation with my GP who gave me an in-person appointment yesterday with a young female GP who was so lovely and understanding. although she said it doesn't seem like it's anything serious she's referred me to the breast clinic. i booked my appointment today for next week, but they told me that i should expect to be there for a few hours, which surprised me. I will keep you updated on my situation, in case it does turn out to be nothing!

I'd love an update on your phone consultation - how did it go and what did they say? I would definitely recommend for you to push towards having a physical examination if you're still concerned, i was so scared for mine but it really wasn't as bad as i thought!

  • Hi

i had an examination with a female GP also. She was also nice and referred me to the breast clinic. It could be into 4 weeks though! So I paid for a private consultation. I went yesterday and he felt about and told me it's all fine. My dent will be because I've had kids and have larger breasts, he felt no lump (even though I'm positive I have), and that I'm young and have normal breasts? I don't know how he can know for sure everything's totally fine if he didn't give an ultrasound or anything though!

  • Hiya! i just thought i would update this as i've just come back from my breast clinic appointment. so i had another physical examination by a female doctor in various different positions and stretches, and she said that due to my larger breast size, it seems as if the ligament of cooper has stretched, and that is what is causing the dimple. she said it's nothing to worry about, but just to be sure she's booked me another appointment for 3 months time to see if there are any changes. i hope this may relieve or help you in some way, apparently dimples can be caused by other things rather than just breast cancer x

i hope you are doing well

  • Hi can I ask if you went to follow up appointment? Had there been any other concerns with your indentation? :)

    Thanks x

  • Hiya! so i was actually unable to attend the follow-up as it was scheduled during lockdown in november and i was at uni so couldn't travel down. i have however, since had a breast reduction. my surgeon didn't express any concern before the operation, and he said that all tissue removed is sent to be analysed for cancer etc afterwards. i've heard nothing back so i assume everything was definitely fine, so i now have no dimple and smaller boobs! yay!

i hope this is of some help x

  • Hey!

I'm 26 and off to the breast clinic tomorrow to have my right breast checked out. I originally went to the GP in Oct 2020 because my breast felt a lot heavier and a little bigger than usual. She put it down to hormones and I went on my Merry way. Fast forward to March 2021 and my husband notice I now have a dimple. Went to the GP again and now have appointment tomorrow morning at the breast clinic. During the two weeks since spotting the dimple and now going to the clinic, I have more dimples, a lump and slight orange peel skin. I will let you know how I get on tomorrow. It could still be nothing but I'm not hopeful.

    Sending lots of love,

    Megs x

  • UPDATE:

Visited the Brest clinic this morning. Dr said she could feel the lump and so sent me for an ultrasound scan. The dr who scanned me said she couldn't see anything at and so I have been sent home. The mind boggles and I guess I will just keep an eye on it :)

    Lots of love,

  • I literally have the exact thing! My breasts are large and im 23 years old, i can see a long line indent when i flex it, when i put my arm by my breast or squeeze, the long line shows from under my nipple to the bottom of my breast, when i feel it when its not foexed, under side of my breast it feels like theres a dent or empty space there. I went to the doctor last year and had a check a full breast examination, I also had a swollen armpit ok the same side which gets swollen more during my period. Anyway she checked both breasts and said they look fine, but she still refered me to the breast clinic. I was checked and had an ultrasound not exactly on this part as it was by a man and he didnt check my whole breast, and he said there ws just thick tissue there. Another lady did a full examination on me again and said it was fine and because im young i can have thicker tissue that causes this, they didnt really say anything about the indentation at all and disregarded it. This all happened last year,

i was looking at it in the mirror again last night and it just looked like a really big indentation line and it freaked me out. I font know if its because i have large breasts because when i lift the fat and flex i cant see the dent? I feel like i gained weight recently and my breasts are really large compared yo my waist and rest of my body so maybe thats why?
