Adenocarcinoma and hysterectomy but no stage?

Hello again,

My 55-year-old mother recently had an endometrial polyp removed. As it turned out, it was an adenocarcinoma (Grade 2) and the doctors are recommending a full hysterectomy to make sure there is no chance of a recurrrence.

I am confused about the diagnosis because the doctor did not give a stage to the cancer but did say that chemotherapy most likely isn't necessary. Is this a cancer diagnosis? And if so, why did they not tell her the stage? She asked multiple times but did not get an answer. English isn't her first language so she may have misunderstood but I looked through the report and found adenocarcinoma, Grade 2 as the only diagnosis.

Thank you for helping me through the worst time of my life.

  • Hello RonnieB,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis. We have information on our website on this page on endometrioid adenocarcinomas which I hope will reassure you. It certainly is a good sign that your doctor mentioned that chemotherapy would most likely not be necessary. It may be useful for you to have a chat about all this with our cancer nurses. You can ring them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. They will be happy to answer questions you may have for example about cancer staging so don't hesitate to talk things through with them.

I hope that your mum's treatment goes well.

    Best wishes,
