Cyst on ovary urgent mri & bloods

Hi all,

I have had cyst on my ovaries for as long as I can remember, I have suspected endometriosis and endometromia on my ovaries, I went for a routine transvaginal ultrasound a few weeks ago, before having my surgery which was planned due to fertility issues, however this morning, I've had a phone call from my fertility doctor to say she's had the report from my ultrasound and the cyst doesn't look like it could be a endometromia now, it's just under 5cm and they want me to have a urgent MRI & CA125 blood test done, I asked her about cancer and she said she can't rule anything out, but it's more than likely it's just Endometriosis and she will book an appointment for me to see her in clinic to discuss results and everything and then discuss about my surgery, my head is all over the place& I'm thinking the worse, google is not helping at all. • Hi Chlo934,

I can understand this must be unsettling and I'm sure it will be a difficult wait while waiting for results. I hope it's not too long to before you get the appointment and the results, and then you'll be able to discuss everything with the specialist.

In the meantime try to keep busy to keep your mind off things if you can. It's also best to avoid Googling things as this is rarely helpful and the information you find can often be irrelevant or out of date, and only causes more worry.

As I say I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi there,

I hope you're okay now and that your symptoms were sorted out and that it was nothing serious. I was just wondering if you're happy to share what happened next? No worries at all if not and I hope everything is okay for you.

im currently in a similar position. I have had an Internal and external ultrasound where they have found a large cyst, they have told me they can't rule anything out and I had an urgent referral to a gynaecologist and for an MRI, the MRI is at the end of the week and the gynaecologist is on Monday so I guess I'll find out then but I can't help but think it must be bad if they're doing this as in the past I've only ever had an ultrasound for my cysts.

    I have had a clear CA125 also!

    thanks so much xx

  • Hi I noticed you've posted today!
I've had recurring cysts since my first pregnancy almost 4 years ago and just recently had my second baby in Jan where I still had a large cyst. It needs removing in around 6 weeks time but my gynaecologist sent me for blood tests tumour markers yesterday and I need an MRI in the next 4 weeks and so I'm panicking that I have cancer! Even though consultant told

me not to panic and it's just to check and make sure he knows what he is dealing with when he does surgery.
how long did it take for your bloods to come back??

  • Hey

i wouldn't worry if the consultant said that as they are not able to give you false hope! It's also a good sign that your Scans and bloods etc haven't been done on the "urgent 2 week" route which is used I think for potential cancer and other sinister conditions.

I had my bloods done on a Saturday and they had the results on the Monday but mine were done on the urgent basis so potentially you may have to wait longer. I know in the past for routine blood tests I've waited around 2-3 working days. Hope that helps :)

  • Thank you for replying. He did put my MRI down as urgent but I'm wondering if that's to get it going quicker. I dunno it's a very anxious time. How are you getting on?

  • No problem!! Oh bless you, if it helps at all, my GP said that if I needed surgery then my MRI would be down as urgent purely to ensure it would be done before the surgery (because apparently MRI appointments can be 5-6 weeks wait).

I am okay but it's just awful isn't it?! I'm 24 and have no children and I'm terrified of losing my ovaries and even more terrified that I have the C word. I know a clear blood test is a good sign but I know it isn't exact. I also have a history of endometriosis on my mother's side so I guess it could be that too.

How are you managing? hang on in there xxx
