Worried about Ovarian Cancer

Hi,

I have been referred today for a CA125 test and ultrasound scan - and am just feeling a bit scared.

I started experiencing severe constipation in May along with other symptoms - bloating, pelvic pain, weight gain (even though I was exercising 4 times a week to try to help resolve the constipation, and being very careful with my diet)

Through the use of Movicol, the constipation has corrected itself,  but the other symptoms remain - the pelvic pain had me awake from 2am this morning. Having spoken to the Dr, she believes that there maybe a gyny issue - hence the referral.

I know its just a matter of waiting (bloods are to be taken Thursday), but I just feel really worried and anxious - everything I read seems to point to Ovarian cancer. I am 44 and have three children (the youngest is 2). My periods are light and last no longer than 2 days.

As I said, I'm just scared

  • I hope you are starting to recover from the experience.   Are you feeling ok now? Was it a burst cyst, they are agony. With any cyst pain  you did well getting to the scan, moving even.   As you say, ovarian cancer is rare, but you cant help worrying whilst waiting.

At least GPs are starting to refer people for USS now. 25 years ago  I just got prodded and told I was OK! I realise now that wasn't right, but there was no internet and it was hard to get information or help. Things are improving but far too slowly and randomly.  X

  • I was so worried at the MRI,  but it wasn't too bad at all.  Ultrasound only shows so much and the MRI gives  a different level of info. I had a really suspect cyst on ultrasound that MRI showed to be not as suspicious as they first thought.   It turned out benign in the end and the irregularities were all due to endo but that wasn't obvious from any of the scans x

  • HI, thanks for the asking   I had a pretty crap night TBH so had to call gynae again this morning as pain was unbearable.  Waited 4 hours for a call back and then when they did, they advised that there was nothing they could really do as my issues aren't really gynae and to go back to my GP?!

I called the GP at 3pm, not expecting them to be able to do much, given the time, but the GP was great and has ref'd me for an urgent CT scan as he suspects kidney stones. He has also prescribed more pain killers that I've to pick up tomorrow and generally just sympathised, saying kidney stones can be agony.  Feel a bit deflated by gynae as it was as if they'd washed their hands of me and I dreaded having to go back to the beginning via A & E.  Thought at the very least they could have ref'd me on to another speciality!  Anyway, just have to wait and see now and hope the pain killers work.   Hope you are well x
