Cervical cancer - think I have it bad!

Hi everyone I'm going absolutely out of my mind and nothing is helping! I recently found some weird lumps/painful swellings inside my vagina and I'm not sure how long they've been there but they hurt a bit to touch and leave behind a burning sensation in my groin when I do. Took a photo inside and was horrified to see how red and inflamed it looks, definitely doesn't seem right but I don't know what I'm looking at! Maybe some clear white bumps as well? I don't know!!! Thinking back I may have had discomfort for a few months now and just never put two and two together because I've never had bleeding or stomach pain!  I googled the symptoms and I'm horrified- burning when peeing ive had that on and off over the months but put it down to random water infection as it always went after a day or so, as well as itching- I assumed it was Thrush as the itching went away with cream and I've suffered from both these things throughout my life. Perhaps my discharge was smellier then usual I'm not sure but never red or a strange colour, so once again had absolutely no idea. No bleeding during sex or bleeding at all and aside from perhaps being slightly uncomfortable at first (which I put down to being out of practice lol) that side of things has been fine. I had a pelvic scan for my ovaries about 1 year ago but I don't think they really checked my vagina so to be honest it could've been growing then and they missed it? I've never had a vagina exam or a smear. I'm only 23 years old so would never have thought about cervical cancer, plus being a student I was so busy all the time and those issues didn't impact my daily life that I never even thought.

Called GP in a panic and was given an appointment but earliest is Monday evening. Was getting burning whilst peeing but quite frequently for 1-2 days so last night I went to out of hours GP who said it's very unlikely to be bad because of my age but she couldn't do an examination all she could do was treat the symptoms. Did a urine dipstick and said there was leukocytes and proteins present but nothing else, no blood and that I'm dehydrated because my urine was a dark yellow/amber colour. She palpated and said it feels fine. I asked if I should be worried and she said no, could just be a UTI.

When I looked up symptoms of kidney disease I was horrified. It fits almost exactly!! I've been going to GP separately because of headaches / vision issues for 3 weeks now and only just been sent for blood tests on Wednesday but now I'm thinking that kidney disease explains even the headaches/vision problems! And of course kidney disease is caused by late-stage cervical cancer and is a main complication of it so I'm now absolutely convinced that I have stage 4b cervical cancer that's spread to my other organs and that I've only got months to live, if that.

I absolutely can't wait till Monday, almost 3 days of worrying but I don't know what else to do. I'm going insane here, have barely slept and keep waking up every few hours. Not sure if that's a symptom or not either! I called the emergency gynaecology line for the hospital but she said unless I'm bleeding and in severe abdominal pain I'm not an emergency and have to wait to see my GP. I'm 23 and probably dying of end stage cervical cancer I think this is a huge emergency, but I do understand where they're coming from.

Is there anything else I can do?? I can't stop thinking about how stupid I've been to ignore the possible signs, but I didn't even know they WERE signs. Nobody tells you what to look for with cervical cancer especially in your early 20s. I feel completely heartbroken and lost. Is there anyone out there with a late stage diagnosis or anyone who can relate to my symptoms? I'm genuinely at the point where I've started planning my funeral because I looked at the surgical options for late stage and it's very very poor prognosis.

  • This really does not sound like cervical cancer, and especially late stage, so it seems like you’ve got yourself in a state with google to be honest. You cannot diagnose yourself from taking photographs of yourself or from google, and your symptoms could relate to many other conditions without being any kind of cancer, far less cervical. No-one on the forum can tell you what is wrong, not even the nurses.  If you had late stage cervical cancer, believe me you would have different symptoms to those you describe.

You need to see your doctor and you need to be examined, only then will you know what’s wron but I know people who are actually dying of late stage cervical cancer and I’ve had it twice myself so I think you should stay off google and stop scaring yourself.

  • Hi Minska thanks for replying.

i am just really worried. I intend to see the doctor asap but it's hard not to assume the worse case scenario, especially when I'm not sure what's explaining the symptoms

with my urine showing infection and proteins plus being an odd colour I got really scared especially connecting it to the pain in my vagina. I do honestly believe I have some cervical cancer symptoms when you google them (the pain, burning, etc) but I realise that there are other things that could potentially be causing them. I also have a lot of the symptoms of kidney disease which is why I'm worried about that and naturally I put the two together as I know cervical cancer can impact your kidneys

  • I understand your worry and anxiety..but you are getting ahead of yourself assuming you have late stage cervical cancer as you don’t seem to have the symptoms of that, and believe me they can be very bad! Google is really not good...it will come back with cancer as an answer to every symptom.

Worrying about worst case scenarios of anything before you even have a diagnosis will really ruin your mind. You just cannot diagnose yourself with late stage cancer from the Internet.
