Hey guys
I am new to places like this and also grateful for these issues to be addressed and nice to have an in site into people's own experience.
You will call me paranoid but trust me I am very concerned with this pain, that is now uncontrollable.
I have been experiencing left shoulder pains from my sternum to my back. I feel I cannot pin point where the actual pain comes from. It is like in and behind my clavicle and also in the intercostal muscles in my back and around to the armpit. Imagine hot rods in the clavicle and the feel you need to massage in and behind it.
I work in a lab and at first blamed my lab coat and my big boobs. This has been going on for months and getting worse to the point where Tuesday I had to go off sick from work because I was crying everyday from the pain and lack of sleep.
I will explain, I have been to physio through work and it didn't help it and then I was referred to MSK who xrayed and I had a perfect shoulder (bone wise).
With the current situation (Covid-19) I had a few phone calls trying to diagnose it with the MSK team. I was referred to the neck rehab because they thought it might be my neck giving secondary pain to my shoulder through the C8 nerve. They gave me a couple of manoeuvres to try. I did a couple of times but was in so much agony I could not do it again.
After ringing a few times, because I was in so much pain, I was advised to ring my GP (but because I was under MSK referral they didn't help me) they finally had emergency appointments at the Center.
I was seen by the MSK team and he saw that it was not what he thought over the consultations on the phone and it was something more deep within the shoulder. They referred me to shoulder specialist (Orthopaedics). Which I am waiting for and was advised it will be at least 3 months plus.
I have recently spoke to my GP that have given me stronger painkillers. The strongest codeine available with gabapentin.
I am experiencing pain more in my upper left back. I have had pain in this area when I was suffering with chest infections. I can manoeuvre my left arm up my back and rotate it 90 degree angle outwards. Which suggests to me that it is not a rotator cuff tear or injury. But the worst pain and in capability is bringing my arm from my side upwards, it cannot move higher than my shoulder and shakes at that point.
My background family history: My mum suffered from an unknown cancer where she had pain in her back. Researched the closest I got was to a RSS Retroperitanial Stromal Sarcoma. My dad died months before from a heart attack when my mum was going through ovarian cancer confirmation. My mum had endometriosis, and so do I (diagnosed last year).
Just to let you know my mums ovarian cancer was stage 1A and like most people will suggest the second cancer she had was secondary. It was not and it baffled consulatants and all who knew my mums situation. Normal FBC no metastasis of lymph node etc.
I just can't believe the time to wait for situations like this is so long. Imagine if it is a Pancoast tumor yet because I am not a smoker or over the age of 60 that it's ok not to test even when the prominent symptoms are there.
I have had to push to even get to where I am now. I have asked for an MRI/CT scan from the MSK team they said there is no reason. So with this information they wanted me to experience this pain for at least the next 3 months, plus being off work too.
Luckily my GP requested an MRI, which I am awaiting appointment of. But she also advised that I might not be able to have it. Does a MRI see lungs and any abnormalities within the chest area?
Should I go private?? I understand what I am asking about will be very very rare but I am desperate beyond belief!!!
Anyway I was wondering if anyone had any experience like myself and the symptoms of an apex located tumor.
Thank you for listening
