Inflammation Markers are Sky High

Where to start ...

Apologies for the content, it's a little personal!

About 10/14 days ago I went to the toilet and when I had finished there was blood everywhere, bright red blood.  (I'm 49, woman but had a full hysterectomy 9 nine years ago).  I phoned my GP and after a telephone consulation was prescribed something to help things along as they believed that I was really constipated.  That worked and I then went the other way for several days.  I had already recieved a phone call asking me to attend a blood test as part of a medication review, so inbetween me being copnstipated and then the opposite I had a blood test.  Well, that came back showing that I was aneamic, which is strange as I gave blood in May and was fine.  Another blood test was done and today I have been back for the results.  I am still aneamic but have an inflammation marker of 35.  I have felt as though I have had a cold coming on for about three weeks now - you know that 'off' feeling that you get, and no I haven't had any loss of smell, taste or cough.  Anyway, I am now being referred for further tests - they want to get me seen within 2 weeks and I am absolutely terrifed that it is bowel cancer. I've never been more scared of anything in my whole life.

  • Hello Mrs Tigger,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long to be seen and have these further investigations. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
