Abnormal smear test results

Hi I'm 25 and recently attended for my smear and have now received the results. I received the hpv vaccine when I was in school, and my results have came back hpv positive with borderline changes. I'm being referred for a colposcopy but I'm incredibly worried. Iv been back and forth to my GP now for about a year, with abnormal bleeding (I recently bled for a month very heavily) heavy discharge, back pain, bleeding after sex and feeling incredibly fatigued etc. I have PCOS so I think they'd just dismissed my symptoms and related it to that, but Iv never had symptoms like this before. If I go for my colposcopy, can it still be found I have CIN2 or CIN3, I'm worried I'll need my cervix removed because then il absolutely never have children and it's highly unlikely I will anyway. Any help would be appreciated, I haven't phoned my GP to speak to them as they're always rude and have no time for me. Thank you

  • Hello Alou123

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some HPV positive results. It's common for women to have this virus and naturally lots of ladies are worried when they do.

The Jo's Trust website have a whole section of information about HPV which may help answer some of your questions but if you're still feeling concerned then please do give our nurses a call. I'm sure they will be able to offer some reassurance. they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
