Breast calcification

Hello, today I went for a mammogram because of pain in my left breast after 2 mammograms they have told me I have  some calcification in my right breast and I'm to have a biopsy on Monday, I'm reeling and feeling terrified. I didn't know anything about these calcium clusters before today. Anyone had the same experience?

  • Hi Suzy1956

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having some breast pain recently. It's good that you arranged for things to be investigated.

Breast calcifications are really common and are usually benign changes that happen as part of the aging process. Lots of women will have calcifications picked up on a mammogram and sometimes the Consultant will want to do a biopsy to confirm that there is nothing to be concerned about. Breast Cancer Now have some information on their website here which you may find helpful.

If you'd like to give our team of nurses a call I'm sure that they will be able to offer some support and reassurance ahead of your appointment next week. They're available MOnday to friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    I hope this helps.
    Best wishes,

  • Hi Suzy1956, I have a biopsy this afternoon after area of calcification were found on my mammogram.  I completely understand your feelings.
I think I am most worried about how to stop my daughter (has special needs) giving me a bear hug every time she sees me.  She's 13 and can hug very tightly
