Breast Pain

Hi all,

For the last 2 months I have had breast pain - under my armpit and round the edge of my breast. It is usually a dull ache with some pinching, itching or sharp pain. To look at, everything looks normal and there is no lump I can feel.

I had a telephone appointment with the doctor today who advised me to take ibuprofen for inflammation for the next 8 weeks and then return if it is no better for a referral.

I am trying not to worry as I am only 24 and there aren't any other symptoms at the moment apart from pain. But I have stupidly googled and am thinking the worst.

Just wondering if anyone else has been advised to do this and if random inflammation is actually as common as he said.

Thanks,

Kathy.

  • Hello Kathy,

I just wanted to pop here to welcome to our forum as your post hasn't received a reply yet.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing discomfort and are, understandably, worried about your symptons but I'm happy to hear you went ahead and had that phone appointment with your doctor.

It's always easier said than done, but do try to keep from Googling your symptoms, I remember one post here that said something along the lines "with Dr. Google you can go from a simple cold to a death sentence within minutes". Hopefully some of our members who have gone through the same experience will stop by soon to share their stories with you and put your mind a bit at ease.

In the meantime, if you feel that talking with someone medically trained might help, please know our team of nurses would be happy to chat with you on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

I hope everything turns out OK for you, Kathy.

    All the best,

  • Hi Kathy,

I am also 24 and posted on this forum a while ago with the exact same problem.

I called my doctor and they said the same to take pain killers and it's not likely cancer.

a few months later I still get the pain in my breasts and armpits and get worried.

i have a history of breast cancer in the family also but due to covid the doctors don't think I need examined.

Just wondering how you are and if you've been given any more information?

    Holly

  • Hi Holly!

I took the ibuprofen for 8 weeks and still no change - I had another telephone call last week with the Doctor who has said that he will call me this week to arrange a face-to-face appointment and to continue with the ibuprofen in the mean time!

    How are you getting on?

    Kathy.

  • Can I ask how you got on ive got exactly the same symptoms as you describe saw nurse nothing obvious found but this nagging pain is driving me crazy. No other symptoms just aching and sometimes sharp pain around left breast

    thankyou

  • Hi Jadie1990,

I just noticed that te last comment on this discussion (before yours) was just over a year ago and as Hawth132k hasn't been back on the forum since March, there is a chance you may not hear back from them.

I hope that isn't the case and they pop back to share their experiences with you soon but if you don't hear anything then you're welcome to reach other to others on more recent discussions about this or start your own.

I hope your symptoms start to improve soon Jadie.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

This is actually still ongoing- I have had around 9 doctors appointments about this, they are reluctant to offer any screening/referral as there is no lump.

I'm still pushing it as it just doesn't feel right!

    Hope you get on okay.
