Doctors testing me for myeloma - worried.

24M, doctors are testing me for Myeloma which has me extremely worried.

I've had RUQ pain for 5 months now accompanied by back pain, tingling burning shins and arms, and headaches. I've started to notice that my pee has white foam on.

My doctor is trying to rule out Myeloma, and so far, the blood portion of the screening test has come back clear (along with a "clear" CBC). I am worried that the urine sample, however, is going to get me a diagnosis of Myeloma due to my symptoms and foamy pee.

Doctor said he isn't worried as I am too young, but my symptoms sound exactly like that of Myeloma?

Any advice appreciated.

  • I'm sorry you having to go through this. I'm am in limbo waiting for biopsy results for lymphoma and am finding it ver emotionally tough.

Do you know when you will hear back from the doctors?

  • Hi, I've had myeloma since October 2016. For me, if you're going to et cancer, that's the one to get because, although it's not curable, it's certainly treatable.

I've been in remission twice and due to my latest relapse, I'm now on permanent chemo. Until it stops working and I get to try something else.

For me, it's been particularly debilitating, partly because I also have COPD, gallstones and an abdominal mass as a result of prior surgery. I also got sepsis and had to have my sigmoid colon removed and thus wear a bag. I have GERD, a couple of hernias, occasional bowel blockages due to adhesions from surgery and probably a couple of other things that I've forgotten for the moment. I also have a cognitive impairment due to all the meds I've been on.

I feel ill most of the time, can hardly eat and have lost my mobility.

But that's the way it's affected me. There are many people with myeloma who lead an active life, cycling thousands of miles a year and enjoying other pursuits. Prognosis for many is over ten years.

I've heard today that my latest blood test shows me almost in remission again, although I'll continue with the chemo. I certainly don't feel that I'm going to die any time soon, although I've come close a couple of times.

Not sure any of that will be helpful to you, it was meant to be reassuring. Anyway, you don't know if you've got it yet. Please let us know how the tests turn out, I hope it's good news.

If you've any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try my best to answer them for you.

    Best Regards
