Waiting for colonoscopy - nervous

Hi there,

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong area to post in.

I'm a 28 year old woman, relatively fit and healthy, two young children. I recently had an extended (3 week) bout of bad stomach cramps/ache, back ache, diarrhoea and nausea, so my doctor got me to do some stool and blood samples. The FIT test came back positive, so I have been referred down the two week path for a colonoscopy. The hospital called this week to say it should be sometime in the next three weeks.

I was trying not to worry too much as I am feeling a lot better this week, but I just looked on my patient access app at the blood test results (the GP had ordered a lot of different tests, they mucked up details on the bottles, so I had to redo them Thursday and only one came back to her, which is now online). The abnormal results are indicating anemia, and show a high eosinophil count. Obviously I then googled that and am now panicking more.

Do all these results together spell bowel cancer, or could it also be diverticulosis or something else? The FIT test was 39 and it said normal range 0-10.

Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some health concerns at the moment. It's good to know that you won't have to wait too long for your colonoscopy and hopefully the Consultant will be able to give you some reassurance the same day.

Unfortunately Dr Google is notorious for giving worse case scenarios when looking at health related information. There could be many reasons for your symptoms but I'd suggest giving google a wide berth for the moment as it will only lead to you feeling even more anxious about things.

If you'd like to talk to one of our nurses about your concerns then you're welcome to give them a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
