Why a multidisciplinary team? Help with clarifying results

Hello, I have had lots of menstruation problems for over a year, with it getting worse and worse. I was reffered for colposcopy which shower erosion treated with silver nitrate sticks and abnormalities.

The biopsies came back with "viral changes, CIN1, CIN2, and ungraded Cin (treated at the moment as moderate abnormalities.)"

The letter says that they will write to me with a treatment care plan soon, after having a specialist meeting with a multidisciplinary team.

I am very young, 23, but heavily symptomatic hence the urgent colposcopy refferal. I was just wondering what this means considering my age and level of symptoms? Is it normal to have these CINs with such symptoms and why would I need a MDT?

I am not worried about it being specifically cancer, and I know I can't change anything. It is more the confusion as to the MDT and if this would classify as precancer or if I'm too young?

Many thanks for any replies,

Zzubs

  • Hi love, this is a normal way forward for your treatment plan.  It means that certain people from different disciplines will discuss the best way forward and that they all know what is agreed.  So a little bit like a report being put together.  So a nurse will be there, your consultant and others who will take care of you.  If you look on this site under your prognosis it will tell you what the CIN1 and 2 mean.  Or a Moderator may help you more than I can.  Good luck and I'll add you to my following list.  Carol

  • Hi Carol,

Thank you so much for your reply! I will check out those pages, and what you posted was so useful which I very much appreciate :')

  • Carol has given you good advice. A Multi Disciplinary Team is held for all patients who have had biopsies, irrespective of the results. If they were benign they discuss discharging or monitoring the patient for a short time. If cancerous or pre-cancerous they discuss the treatment path. The patient is then told the result. Good luck, Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hi Angie, I have been reading through some of your posts and would just like to say a HUGE THANKYOU. I have been waiting 5 weeks for my biopsy results and sometimes losing my mind with good days bad days and some really really bad days today being one of them. I know my Dr has had my results since Monday and she has also been on hols so have been climbing the walls because she hasn't got back to me, after reading your post to someone back in February you explained how everything works once she has the results and that she has to discuss them with a mdt regardless if they are good or bad. This info has just changed my whole state of mind and I feel a whole lot lighter right now. You've just shined a huge Ray of light down a very dark tunnel and I feel I can get through the rest of the week with some form of normality restored. I know I still have to face results but I'll think about that after the weekend So again a very sincere THANKYOU and I hope you are doing OK and living your best life and one day I hope I can make a difference to somebody else no matter what the outcome. Take care and stay safe.. Ps I don't think I mentioned the biopsy was suspected melenoma xx
