Getting breast biopsy results

Hi - can anyone out there let me know how you are receiving your results negative or positve after your Breast biopsy at the moment?  I had Breast cancer 12 years aged 42 and this week ive just had a Vacuum assisted biopsy on the same boob as there is something they need to investigate. So yes I am a little concerned that the dreaded C has come back and my mind working overtime. An outpatient appointment has been made for next Friday to get results but they also said they might call me.  If i dont get a call by Friday do i assume the worst ? As i cant work out if a call is a good thing or a bad thing ? Surely they wont deliver bad news over the phone or has this happened to anyone recently ? Sorry seems an unnecessary question in the scheme of things with regards to some of your own posts and worries but if anyone can help that would be great. Thank you.

  • Hello Popeye66

I think that before the beginning of th epandemic it was very unusual to be given results by phone but over the past few months hospitals have had to adapt to be able to give patients news in a timely fashion. Of course, as things are starting to improve, ways of working are changing again and so I know we've had a number of people here on the forum who have been given all types of news via phone and face to face appointments recently.

I think the important thing is not to get too worked up about whether you have a phone call or are asked to attend clinic at the moment. Try to stay positive and remember that the majority of breast lumps turn out to be non cancerous. I understand with your history that this can be hard to do so if you'd like to have a chat with one of our team of nurses before your appointment then please do give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on this week.

    Best wishes,
