Liver abnormality on CT Scan

I ended up in a surgical assessment unit today after severe abdominal pain, loss of appetite, weight loss, nausea and diarrhea. I had blood tests which were "reassuring" which is good, but the registrar could feel some hardening in my mid abdomen so I had a CT scan. This came back clear apart from gallstones and an abnormality on my liver which needs further investigation with an MRI and possibly a biopsy. Can anyone help with what "an abnormality" might mean? TIA

  • Hello domt

I'm sorry to hear that you've been so unwell recently. It's good to hear that your blood test results didn't raise any concerns at the hospital.

It's understandable that people can be concerned when they're told there's an "abnormality" on some test or scan results but it's important to remember that not all abnormalities mean a cancer diagnosis. This is why the hospital are requesting an MRI so that they can see in more detail what is going on in that area.

Try to stay positive and take things a day at a time. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your appointment and results. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi, I wondered how you were getting on - if you had any answers yet? I have similar symptoms and liver lesions found on CT. Waiting for MRI next.
