First trip to breast clinic - want to expect.

^^^#what to expect

Hey all, thanks for reading.

I have been referred for urgent appointment at breast clinic, due to a lump in my left breast I've had for about 5/6 weeks. My appointment is in 10days time. However when the GP examined me she noticed another lump in my right breast... which I said 'oh I'm not worried about that one'. But since then, I have natuarally started worrying about that one!
So my question is, will they check both breasts at my appointment?

thanks for reading :)

  • Hi

Sorry I havent got answers for you but I'm in the same boat as you, around 8 weeks ago I noticed a firm mass in my right breast, i waited few week to see if it would go but i didnt so i went to the gp and i was referred to the breast clinic.

I have my appointment tomorrow morning, I know theres something not right, I've got a gut feeling it breast cancer but I obviously dont know what it is until tomorrow

I can reply to again tomorrow after my appointment to tell you what they did! Good luck with your appointment and I hope it's all good

  • Thank-you for your reply :)

yes please let me know, I have read leaflets about what to expect but there are some grey areas.

Good luck, hope all goes well x

  • hi both.

I was also referred on a 2 week rule after finding a lump. The GP did think possibly a cyst, i have a history of cysts and have been referred before., but referred me to make sure.

I was seen Tuesday last week in breast clinic. They were fantastic. I Initially I was examined by a consultant, I then had a mammogram (both breasts) and an ultrasound on the breast with the lump in. The ultrasound was performed by a consultant radiologist and they told me straight away it was a cyst.

I'm sure your GP would have recorded both lumps in your referral letter but do make sure you let them know if not.

Hope everything goes OK for you both.

  • Hi HA1 thank-you that's really useful to know... I will be sure to mention all worries when I get there.
Were you aloud to take someone with you? With the current Covid situation?

  • Hi I went last week for lump in my armpit. The mammogram was done on my breasts and then I had a ultrasound and biopsy.

  • That's good to know... I'm glad you got good news the other day [@Kelbelash]‍ x

  • Thank you. I'm keeping an eye on it. The pain has gone from the biopsy so now I don't notice it until I'm in the shower. It seems to be painful just before my period so will see how it is this month!

My dad told me that my mum's first one was benign which nobody had told me about before. So will be hyper aware from now on but glad my mammogram was clear x

I'm sure they will check both for you. I'm glad they did all the checks on me x

  • Hi [@Kelbelash]‍  aww it must be really worrying when there is a family history. Especially such a close family member. My Mums cousin died from BC in her late 30s that was a long time ago, she was denied a new drug which could of kept her alive longer :(

Did you take someone with you to clinic?

  • No I had to go alone. My mother in law waited outside for me in the car park. I'm grateful in my area they are seeing people fast. Im seeing its not the same other parts of the country. Yes its scary both my Mum and Nan died of breast cancer so I feel like a ticking time bomb at the moment x

  • Hey [@Kelbelash]‍

That's good you got seen so fast. From my gp visit to breast clinic appoitment Is 12days for me, so I'm guessing I'm in a more fortunate area (north west).

Bit of a bummer you had to go alone, but I suppose needs must with current situation. My hubby wants to come with me, maybe he could wait close by.

ah I bet your anxiety is through the roof! Are they not offering routine checks because of family history?
