White spot centre of nipple

Hey all x

So I'm freaking out. I'm finding it so hard to be positive and not think the absolute worse, so I thought this would be a supportive place where others know how I'm feeling?!

I have an appointment at the breast clinic next Thursday. I found a white spot in the centre of my Nipple a few weeks ago (not sure how long it's been there) . Had telephone appointment with my gp and she thought it maybe fungal? So prescribed cream. I called up again as it wasn't going and she saw me immediately and has transferred me. She said my nipple has a pearl like spot right in the center and said the breast is a little lumpy too.

My recent background is, my baby died during my labour due to massive failings in my care. So after giving birth to her I received a pill to dry up my milk.

I'm wondering if this spot is down to old milk? but my doctor seems to think not possible after so many months?

As you can imagien my life since my baby died a few months ago (nearly 9 months) has been utter hell, I've been trying to pull myself together but things keep happening. A few weeks ago I lost my best friend (my dog) who was helping me soooo much though all of this hell. So I'm struggling alot mentally. And this stress has tipped me over slightly. I'm trying so hard to keep myself together. But bad things keep happening.

I'm not sure what the white spot is or could be. But I'm freaking out!

  • Hi Amya,

Mine was also in the center of the nipple, visible at all times, like white pearly lymph captured beneath the skin (about 4mm in diameter). It drainded by itself and I just noticed it wasn't there one morning. Howevee, my appointment is next Tuesday so I will update you. I don't think you should be scared of the punch biopsy, it is best to have it checked out so you can easy your mind.

In terms of the urgent refferal, I got the hospital date the very next day. I live in SE London, I don't know if waiting times vary depending on the NHS Trust.

    Will write on Tuesday.x

  • Hi Jovana.

Yes please update me with how you get on. How long did you have your white pimple lump for.? Did it quite hard on the top and have you never breast fed like me.? I don't have any children and I'm 42 years old. My spot came up out of no-where and I've now had it for 4 weeks. My GP thought it might be a cyst, I have cysts in both of my breasts already which were picked up on my scans a year ago and I also had a mammogram 18 months ago aswell as one of the cysts I could feel so they drained it with a fine needle aspiration and it collapsed it. I just really don't like seeing this white hard pimple which is about 2-3mm on the centre of my nipple atall. Did yours give you tingling pain atall and pressure there when the nipple is erect as just before my period my nipple really hurts with it. I hope your appointment goes well. Your lucky yours has just gone as I've tried everything to get rid of mine by soaking in warm Epsom salt baths every night but nothing works to make it go down.x

  • Hi Amya,

I hope it is something benign like the cysts you had before.

I don't have children and my white patch lasted for almost 2 months.

My breast was sore and sensitive on touch, especially the nipple area, and it still is.

I have never had mammography but did ultrasounds every year and they were always clear.x

  • Hi Jovana

I had my first mammogram at 40 when they wanted to check me for a small lump I could feel which turned out to be a cyst. If you have been referred and never have had one they may offer you one to check all is ok as apparently it can show what an ultrasound can't but I did have both. I'm hoping that in another month mine too also goes away or falls out like yours did as it won't pop either.

it's nice chatting to someone around my age who also hasn't had children that understands just what it is like as it's not nice having something in your nipple that you can see everyday and that causes you to worry. Do you suffer with cysts in your breasts atall Jovana.? X

  • Hi Jovana

Hiw did you get on at the breast clinic.? Did they make you have an ultrasound and a mammogram.? Did they confirm if they thought you had a cyst in the nipple before it drained.? I've been seen by the breast care clinic and upon examination they believe mine is a cyst in the centre of the nipple which I was told can't be popped as it's quite deep and has a garfish white top to it. They did an ultrasound and all looked ok apart from my milk ducts being dilated at the time and a few cysts visible in the breast. I was told to go back in 6 weeks time to have another mammogram when not on my period as my breasts were too tender to have it done to just double check that there is nothing sinister behind it going on. I was also told that in another 6 weeks it may go down like yours did or just drain by itself. I'm still worried as I've now had it just over 4 weeks and there has been no change in it going down despite many salt warm baths and applying tea tree oil to it.

Hooe all was ok at your appointment yesterday. X

  • Hello Amya,

I went yesterday and the Dr said it was probably a sebaceous cyst as it drained by itself. He did a physical examination (that lasted 5 mins max) and didn't refer me to do any scans. As I had pain during the examination, he also touched my rib cage (it was really painful) and said I had inflamation in that area, like a rib cartilage inflammation that can cause breast pain. I expected an ultrasound, at least. Also, I have anemia, severe fatugue and frequent fevers and colds and wanted to check with him If this could have something to do with my breast condition, but there was no time.

Glad that you got all those scans and further check-ups so you can put your mind at ease.x

  • Hi Jovana

At least yours has gone now which is a good thing for you. I'm surprised they didn't offer you an ultra sound there and then and I'm sorry you have been feeling tired with pain. I too suffer with anemia and take daily iron tablets to keep my levels up. When you had your white nipple lump did it stay the same size for two months and did it feel hard on the top to touch.? Mine seems to be looking whiter as the weeks go on but not drained atall.

I've heard they can come back again if a cyst. I know it's not a place where you want to see one is it really. I'm sure when they examined you they would have felt for any lumps and if suspicious they would give you a mammogram. I hope you feel better soon. I'm dreading my mammogram in 5 weeks time and praying this pimple lump goes by then as I would have had it 10 weeks by then. As I'm small chested they really hurt me with the machine and I felt bruised for 4 days after it. X
