Daughter has Grade 5+ tonsils and lumps in neck

So Myla, 4 has always had REEALLYY large tonsils drs and ENT have seen this since she was 2 years old.

Around xmas 2019 whilst doing her hair i noticed 2 pea sized lumps on the side of the neck, i kept my eye on them over a couple of weeks, when they didnt go down i called the GP. But was told to keep my eye on them and nothing further was needed.

Fast forward to april just after lockdown, she started snoring really loud at night to the point we could hear her over the TV downstairs. looking at her tonsils they have gotten absolutely massive at this point. so i called the gp who told me over the phone its probably hayfever.

3 weeks ago, my other daughter who shares a bedroom with myla screamed downstairs that myla had stopped breathing.

It turns out that shes taking long pauses in breathing on average between 15-19 seconds sometimes. Then panicks, throws her arms out and does a big grunt snore. then she regualtes for a little bit. which i videod for the GP

after this i called GP and pleaded that someone sees her, after agreeing he watched the videos, looked at her tonsils and lumps, he said hed never seen tonsils like it in 23 years as they are overlapping and noduled, that they needed to come out and was given an urgent appointment at ENT for 30th July.

22nd July weve noticed a new lump in her neck which is around 1.5cm, anyway told the GP again( were kind of on first name basis at this point im sure you can see haha!!!) and he called back and said shes to go to the Childrens Hospital on 25th July. I just dont know what to expect. Stupidly reading online im worrie about it being Lymphoma.

Other symptoms shes been having are, under weight, pale- but not ghostly, few times of complaining of painful legs, really low appetite, previous abnormal white blood cells.

Has anyone been through something familiar?

Also im sorry for the lengthly post :)

  • Hello jessieimpey,

Poor little Myla! It's good that this is now being investigated properly. I imagine she is now - since yesterday - at the Children's hospital. How is she feeling the little one? I am sure they will look after her really well there. I just wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you - it must be a really challenging time and not having answers yet must be so unsettling for any parent. If you can though, try to avoid looking anything up online as this will inevitably bring up worst case scenarios and make you feel more worried. Try and keep busy and focused on other things if you can - I imagine this must be a very stressful time for you. It won't be long now until the experts give you some definite answers.

We're all thinking of you. Keep us updated if you can; we'd love to hear from you again and keep everything crossed for positive news.

    Sending you virtual hugs.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie,

Thankyou so much for your message.

We are just waiting on appointment dates but they told us they want to do a sleep test before removing her tonsils.

They also said they would like to do a biopsy on the lumps in her neck, fingers crossed we are getting somewhere!

    Thankyou again
