Lymphoma fears

Hi.
I have been having symptoms such as night sweats, fatigue, weight loss as well as sudden shortness of breath and pain in my chest, often after sleeping. Have tried acid tablets which made no difference and have also recently noticed a lump on the back of my neck just at the base of the skull and worried this might be a lymph node? The consultant as the hospital has requested a Thorax Chest CT with contrast - will this show lymphoma?
very worried about it all currently!

Thanks :)

  • Hello GC_SL2,

A thorax chest CT with contrast cannot detect lymphoma as such. It gives a good picture of lymph nodes, which might raise the possibility of lymphoma and lead to a biopsy or other tests. The radiographer who examines the CT scan won't just be looking for lymph nodes; they will take a good look at all aspects of the scan in case they see anything else unusual.

I had a thorax CT with contrast (after trying the acid reflux tablets which made no difference), and lymphoma is one of the possibilities they are considering. I have since had two biopsies which didn't lead to a diagnosis, and am having another biopsy done by a different technique next week. My symptoms are different to yours though; I'm not having night sweats but I have a 8-month persistent cough.

Good luck with your CT scan.
