Growth found on thyroid, waiting for GP to chase up appt

Hi,

I have a growth on my thyroid noticed by my GP in February. I received an appt for ENT in April but then lockdown turned that into a phone call. Now the gland under my jaw on left side is swollen. At times it feels like someone has their thumb in the hollow of my throat and swallowing is harder.

im now waiting for my GP to chase up an appointment but have seen some similar symptoms on here and would really appreciate how they progressed and what the treatment was. I'm also battling anxiety at the the moment and with the chemicals my body makes that surge through my body from my glands it's like my body has turned against me. Unfortunately with lockdown I feel like I've slipped through the cracks and would be really grateful for some straight forward information on treatment etc from someone who has previously been where I am now.

    Hi Lynn, I’m so sorry you’ve had this worry and felt like you’ve fallen through the cracks. I feel that way too. Prior to lockdown I noticed a lump on my thyroid. I was then sent for an ultrasound scan, I was then referred for an urgent appointment at ENT. They then put a small camera up my nostrils to have a look at my throat and I think it was to see if the lump was restricting my throat. After this I was then referred for a biopsy - this came back as indeterminate and I was then referred on to get surgery. When I was referred to get surgery, this is when lockdown happened and I’m still waiting for a surgery date. I hope this is helpful - these are all the steps Ive went through. I’m not sure if you’d be able to but you could perhaps ask your GP for the ENT departments number to chase up yourself also? If you’ve already seen a consultant I imagine you might be able to have a conversation with them around how you’re feeling and when you might be seen? Good luck with everything. Sarah xx

    Hi Sarah,

    thank you so much for replying and letting me know what to expect when ENT depts fully open again.  I had a video appt with my GP yesterday so she has now seen the second lump that's growing and said she will follow up on the referral and get me seen. When I rang the ENT that I was originally referred to and was told it's still closed, I told them my symptoms are increasing and was told they would ring me back (that was two weeks ago).

     

    i understand with the pandemic that things are slow across the board, but it doesn't stop you worrying. I can go to a dentist but I can't be seen for growths in my throat and neck.  I guess we just wait and chase until we get sorted out. Thank you though, your reply really has helped.
