7 weeks and counting sore throat

Hello all

I find myself here after a Google search.

Anyway a bit about me 37 years old mum of 6 previous HPV cervical screen when I was about 17 and continuous abnormal cervical cells and treatment had partial molar pregnancy in 2018.

7 weeks ago I had a sudden onset sore throat and it has been continuous since with some days being dull ache but am aware of other days like today awful and I'm struggling to cope.  It's one sided and sometimes aches the same side ear.

I contacted the gp after 3 weeks was given antibiotics via a phone appointment due to covid.  I have no tonsils but tbh its further down then there.

The antibiotics did not work so they prescribed throat spray that doesnt work.

Paracetamol ibuprofen doesnt work and now I just keep getting fobbed off they wont see patients face to face and once again it's a really bad day with it.

I'm calling again tomorrow as I feel like crying but I dont know what I should be insisting on.

My friend and the receptionist both have said I sound like I have hoarseness I cant notice it myself. But i do notice i have been clearing my throat more this past week.

I'm here for advice I've never felt like this had this or any experience i dont smoke or drink.

  • Hi. I had s sore throat for months that was quite agonising at times. The GP did a swob but that was clear. One day it disappeared and looking back - it was a mystery. It could be a virus or even silent reflux or allergies. Unless there are any red flag symptoms a GP will likely want you to wait to see if it resolved but you could ask for a referral.

  • Well there just not doing anything sometimes it's a dull ache sometimes it's very painful it feels like there is a swelling but I'm really not sure this has been going on so long and people now recognise I sound different even on the phone.  I've been told about strep throat... glandular fever and thyroid issues.  I also know you can get issues in the throat relating to HPV I have had HPV show when I was around 17 or 18 years old.  Not sure if it's all relevant I believe it's not normal to have throat issues for more then 3 weeks it's not getting any different it's just consistent.

  • I know it’s been ages, however I have had a sore throat for 7 weeks now and bloods and swab have come back fine. I am on waiting list for ENT but that could be months. Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

  • Hello, I am in the same situation and wondering if you got answers about what has been causing your sore throat? I am in similar situation (sore throat for 5 weeks now) and getting very anxious. All blood tests clear, waiting for ENT appointment. Many thanks.
