I'm sorry you find yourself with this worry but it's good that you have had it checked & that you are seeing dermatology. You were referred because the nurse wouldn't definitely know if there's a problem so you are being sent to the experts - it doesn't mean you definitely have cancer.

They will look at the mole using a dermascope - this shows them if there is any unusual cell activity in the mole. If it looks fine you will be discharged. If they are unsure, they will arrange for it to be removed & a biopsy carried out. This takes a few more weeks of waiting but please be assured that 75% of patients referred to dermatology are discharged with a clean bill of health.

If it does turn out to be melanoma it's very likely to be early stage because you have noticed it & got it checked out quickly. Early stage melanoma is treated by a second, larger, removal of tissue to ensure it's all been removed & then regular check ups for a short time. In these cases 95% of patients have no further problem throughout life so try not to worry.

Im just a bit concerned as I noticed the changes about a week ago but I can't say how long it had been like that previous to me discovering that it had changed.
