Suspecting IBC

Hello.

About 3 weeks ago I noticed a dimple in my right breast. I now have an appointment a week today at the breast clinic. 2 days ago there was what I think spontaneous discharge out of the nipple of the same breast, although there hasn't since been any more. It's fair to say I'm extremely worried and it's on my mind constantly.

I am only suspecting immflamotary breast cancer due to horrendous google searching. No medical professional has yet told me this but the signs are obvious that this is what its pointing to.

I feel like I'm going to get some very bad news.

I am 27 with a 1 and a half year old daughter. I'm terrified. Has anyone experienced this, and what was/is your journey? I guess I'm looking for reassurance and experience of what to expect.

  • Hi Am92,

I know it's really hard but try not to worry, the breast clinics are fantastic and you dont know until you know and a doctor has confirmed it.

And stay off doctor google, it's a minefield of misinformation.

You have a 1 ½ year old daughter, I bet she keeps you busy, my youngest is nearly 3 and a total nightmare haha. Take each day and do something to occupy yourself...its always there but might take your mind off things.

I had high grade dcis and was diagnosed in february and had a mastectomy in may with an expander fitted...all was fantastic and the care and treatment I recieved was brilliant. Until last week when i got sepsis and was taken to hospital as my body rejected the implant. Had it removed and feel better.

I wish you all the luck and that you get a positive outcome, if you want a chat this group is fantastic x

  • Hello,

Thank you. I am grateful to be being seen tomorrow after the wait which seems like forever but it soon passes. Since I posted my anxiety has lessened although all symptoms are still there. I now see to make this post titled suspecting ibc as a bit dramatic, I guess anxiety and panic makes you do daft things in the moment! Nervous but keen to get to the appointment tomorrow. Thank you for your advice, staying off google does help!

I hope you are well and I'm sorry you had to go through that. Nearly 3 ahhh I can imagine they are walking talking tornadoes by then! But we wouldn't have them any other way

This group is fantastic. Will update on the outcome of my appointment.

    Take care for now,

    Amber xx

  • It's really hard not to worry and Google makes things 10 times worse.

I think with those symptoms though it could be a whole host of benign breast conditions. Perhaps even if you breast fed it could be an infection related to that.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer and did the whole Googling and in my mind I thought it was IBC too, but when I got my diagnosis my doctors were very firm in telling me that it wasn't IBC. My nurse told me that IBC is normally quite distinctive for the 'orange peel' look of the skin and quite often there can be a rash too - I didn't have any of that. I did have a dimple but that can be symptomatic of so many things.

I hope that helps a tiny bit..
