Mole excision

i had a suspected cancerous mole taken out last Monday. The doctor said he would fast track it so that I had results this Monday. I have not had them yet but how do I get the results. Do the y phone me. Go crazy with worry.

  • Hi Shirley,

They usually like to give good or bad news face to face so they contact you with an appointment date. However, due to Covid, some consultants are getting the nurse to ring & see if the patient is happy to have their results over the phone (good or bad). So I would await a phone call with an appointment date or the results. I am quite surprised that, even with less patients having biopsy surgery, that they expect your results to come back within a week. Normally they take an average of 3 weeks but during Covid the average is 2 weeks. This is because the results are discussed at a Multi Disciplinary meeting (dermatologist, plastic surgeon, oncologist & nurses) before they contact the patient. This is for ALL results, whether good or bad and they are only held once a week so this is what usually causes the delay.

I suggest that, if you haven't heard anything by Friday morning, ring the consultant's secretary and ask if the results are back & when will someone be contacting you. Hopefully you will know before the weekend. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
