Wait for results?

Hello,

I've been experiencing abnormal bleeding for over a year (currently 16 consecutive weeks!) Along with pain and bleeding during and after intercourse and hip pain that is sometimes so intense I can't move... My smear test in Feb detected abnormal cells and a HPV positive results.

Had my colposcopy on Friday (10th) and had 2 biopsies taken... One of the cervix and the other one a sample of my womb lining... Coloposcopist didn't really say too much other than they would let me know of the results and it could take up to 8 weeks!

With all the symptoms and the results of the original smear test I'm obviously worried sick and was just wondering if anyone could tell me if they found cancer would it still be an 8 week wait or would they let me know sooner?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi KazzyAzzy, so sorry you have found yourself here and hope you are doing ok. I too had heavy bleeding, flooding but had mine for years before I was referred for tests etc. I had transvaginal ultrasound then waited two weeks to speak to a doctor about "the process" then waited 17 further weeks for hysteriscopy appointment where several biopsies were taken (this was Oct 2019) I was told that day that results were taking up to 8 weeks. Mine took 8 weeks. Got a call asking me to attend hospital for results. Unfortunately mine wasn't good news and even the doctor was surprised that my results had taken so long.  However there are many many stories on here of heavy bleeding etc that turn out to be cysts, thickened womb lining, polyps - all easily treated. However if it does turn out to be bad news, you will take it one step at a time. Treatments have come far in the last few years and it is never as bad as it seems. I can vouch for that. I finished treatment few weeks ago. If you ever need to ask anything please do but remember it's not always bad news. The not knowing and the waiting is the worst past so try to keep busy. I know it's difficult but worrying won't change the outcome. Fingers crossed for a good result x

  • Thank you for replying and I'm really sorry to hear you recieved bad news, I hope that treatment went well!

It's the not knowing that's giving me anxiety and I was really hoping that if it was worst case I would find out sooner rather than later... I'll throw myself into work to try and keep my mind busy! Xx

  • To KazzyAzzy. Yep best thing for it. I was a bit naive cos I thought it wouldn't happen to me. I wasn't worried one bit! Started to think about it when had to wait for scans but kept myself busy tidying/painting house and getting ready for Christmas. Distraction is just the best thing. Let me know how you get on. Good luck x
