normal letter?

hi guys,

recently had 2 small ops on cancer in my tongue,  had a cat scan 4 days ago and now I have received my follow up letter.

is it normal for the letter say I will be meeting with a large team to discuss further treatment options,  including doctor, consultant,  dietician and speech. therapist?

am I overly concerned?  not really, worrying will not change anything,  but my wife is very concerned as are other people who now know what the letter says.

so, does anyone know. if this is a normal follow up letter?

  • Sorry pappahog but I don't know anything about tongue cancer so hoping someone comes along soon who does but I wouldn't be concerned about the letter, looks to me you are going to get the gold standard treatment to deal with the aftermath of your Ops.

  • Surely the letter must have said more than just that you would be going to a meeting? If not then that sounds very poor on their part. I would guess that your GP has been kept informed, and had a copy of that letter, so maybe ask to see him/her for further information?
When is this meeting to be by the way?
But, that aside, I'm sure someone will be along who knows more about this  than I, which wouldn't be difficult!

  • it had a few more details about the allowing 2 hours for the meeting,  but that was about it.

  • Still might be worthwhile asking your GP. I've had two bouts of hospital investigations last year, one for glaucoma and one colonoscopy, and in both cases I had letters about the results which were copied to my GP. But, to be fair, both also gave the results (in medical terms which weren't that clear to me at the time). All I can say is that I'm sure you're in good hands, I hope you don't have too long to wait for the meeting, and that you have my very best wishes. I know it sounds scary but it may well be just a procedural matter.
Please let us know how it goes for you.

  • hi there, i will of course keep this thread updated.

i ought to add the NHS have been superb throughout this process. From the practice nure who thought it looked odd and referrered me, through the biopsy and 2 operations to the CT scan all withing 9-10 weeks everyone at every stage has been awesome and supportive.

The question was never anything other than is this a bulk standard letter.

thank you for taking an interest.

  • Hopefully my final post,

had the all clear yesterday (have spoken to the team about how the letter looks and they will take my comments on board)

to Anyone that has commented or read the thread, thank you and with the best will in the world you hopefully will not see any more posts on here :)

  • So, that isnt the end of my personal story with Cancer. About 10 weeks after the all clear I noticed a small painful lump in my throat.

    Turns out, its Cancer again.

Quickly seen, had a Pet Scan and yeah the Lymph Node was shining brightly on the scan.

Had an operation a week or so later, removed about 30 nodes 2 of which were cancerous. 1 had burst...not the best news.

About to start a 6.5weeks of Radio and Chemo. They will be targeting my neck and tongue just to be certain.

Again NHS have been superb, one or two hiccups along the way (accidently cut major blood vessel during surgery so i was on the table for 7 hours plus) but, and i cannot state this any clearer they have been brilliant. It must take a certain kind of person to work the cancer wards and im pleased to say the Hospital seems to have found a very attentive and caring team.

Onwards and upwards i guess, gonna be a rough new year but once im throught this it should be plain sailing :)

Thanks for taking the time to read

  • Sorry to hear your new news pappahog. Really glad the NHS was on top of it and you've came out the other side. Take care and hopefully 2021 will be a better year x

  • Thank you :)

will be happier in about 2 months time when im finished chemo and radio but hopefully this is the last hurdle for me.
