Recurrent infections this year. A little worried

Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well

I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar issue to mine, it's starting to make me worry and stressed.

in late January I came down with a chest infection which I've never had before. Had a fever and generally felt really unwell. Dr treated me with antibiotics and I started to feel better. A week later the fever came back and I felt terrible, dr said my chest didn't sound great and was given more antibiotics and felt better after a few days. I also had bloods taken showing my WBC, CRP and Neutrophil were raised a bit. Dr said this is normal when you have an infection.

March came round and I was hit with two more fevers. One with severe shakes and sore throat, I ended up in A&E and given IV fluids. Diagnosed with a viral infection, bloods taken again. A few days letter tonsils started to show Pus so was given more antibiotics. April came and I got another fever but received after a few days.

May and June I felt fine and my bloods in June were normal. I say normal but since 2010 I've had high Igg (21) and high total serum protein (84). Dr isn't concerned as it's been so long.

last week I got another fever and sore throat. Had a Covid test and a strep test and both were negative. I've been referred to an immunologist.

I can't think of a time I've had a fever in recent memory but I've had 5+ this year. Ranging (37.5-38.3) but when I feel fine it's back to normal.

should I be concerned? I'm really worried as I read ruccarant infections are a sign of blood cancers. I bought this up with Dr and he said all my

other tests were ok, not anemic etc.

many thanks

  • Hi RyanC88,

I can understand this must be a little unsettling not to mention difficult to keep getting the fevers. It's good to hear you've been speaking to the doctor about this. Unfortunately I'm unable to advise on this, but if you have doubts about any information you've received, you could always ask for a second opinion.

If you'd like to talk anything through with our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope you're able to find out more about this soon and that things begin to ease.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
