I have a 1950s house which I am renovating doing all the work myself. I was renovating the stair case, removing the spindles and sanding down the stairs and banister with a power sander. I thought I was sanding old filler which was what what holding in each of the spindles along the staircase; but after 3/4 of it was sanded (with a power sander) I become conserned about asbestos and decided to take a test. The test came back confirming it was chrysotile coating with no more than 3% asbestos. The sanding was done over 4 days approx 4 hours per time. I was wearing a mask however my concern is for my 10 month old daughter as although she does not live at the property where the asbestos is, I did sit in the same car as her for 15 mins immediately after sanding. Also as I did not waer protective clothing I am worried I bought asbestos fibers back to the house where she lives. I am terrified I have harmed her longterm health and do not know what to do.
