Very worried man

This time last year I found a lump.on one of my testicles which was found to be cancerous. Orchidectomy performed September and 1 round of chemo in Nov/Dec. All was good surgeon happy everything clear.

3 month check up x Ray and blood test n March all good consultant happy.

6 month check up in June routine x ray, blood test and Abdominal CT scan, ct scan delayed due to covid 19 but consultant reports x ray and blood test all good. Abdo ct scan came through near end June went for it and 2 days later got phone call saying I had to have a Chest CT.. Alarm bells were ringing a little now so off I toddle for a chest CT on the 30th June. I have a scheduled OP telephone consult booked for 8th July at which point he tells me they discovered a 'dot' at the base of my left lung on the Abdo CT hence the quick follow up Chest CT to confirm.

He said I needed a PET scan and he would arrange it, well literally yesterday received phone call for a PET scan today.

I am pleased but concerned that its all happened so fast and have been given zero information on what lies ahead for me. My wife and I are in.our late 50's and its been a helluva 48 hours so far for us both.

My consultant is obviously good but has zero bedside manner and is very abrupt, along with it being a phone call it just didn't help.

The 'dot' is less than 1cm but I'm afraid it means not a lot to me.

Now the real kicker on this story is my son at 32 years of age was also diagnosed with the same thing 1 month after me, he also had the same procedure and has literally mirrored me with the exception of no chemo. He has had his 6 month CT about 2 weeks ago and has had his telephone consult changed to a face to face consult on Monday coming, as you can imagine he is now very worried at what is going to come out in his consult as am I.

PET scan this pm so will let you know what happens to both me and my son.

  • Hello Nick,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. By now you will have had your PET scan and I hope everything went well for you and that your son's appointment goes well too. What a strange coincidence that your son was also diagnosed with the same thing just one month after you. It's good as you say that things are moving fast but I am sorry to hear you were not given much information. I hope that by now you will have found out  a bit more if you have already received the results of your PET scan.

If you have any questions or just want to talk things through, you are welcome to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that others who have been in a similar situation will pop by and share their experience with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you and your son.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Nick,

sorry to read your news.Usually when you get a good kicking the assailant is usually standing on the spare leg,but in your case it seemsd it was otherwise occupied with your son.Knowing how hard it is to deal with just your own diagnosis,it really seems like you have been handed a live grenade on this one.l hope the experts are able to defuse this for both of you,and the reality is easier to bear than the initial shock,

                                      take care,
