I know it's very worrying but it's good that you've seen the growth & that it's getting checked out quickly. 

75% of patients referred to the dermatologist are given a clean bill of health so there is a very good chance that your dad will be one of them. If it does turn out to be melanoma there is a lot of treatment available now that is showing great success so please try not to think on the bleak side.

The dermatologist may want the mole removing for a biopsy so don't panic if they suggest this - it just means that it's a fool proof way to find out if it's dodgy or not.

Try not to focus on it while waiting for the appointment and don't Google - it's not up to date & only gives worse case scenarios so it won't help. 

Keep busy & your dad's appointment will come around quickly. Good luck and please let us know how he gets on,
