Ovarian Cysts

Hi everyone

I am normally quite a calm person but after having a very traumatic event last year which seen me have two emergency operations in the space of a few weeks and going into develop sepsis I am not a fully fledged panicker.

I had a full hysterectomy and large fibriod removed

Then  back in February I started having pain in my one remaining ovary. A cyst was picked up on a ultrasound scan around 5.9 cm.

Ive just has a a recent follow up scan and it's still present but 4.9cm. I am now being referred back to the gynaecologist and the Gp said oh looks like they want to order up an MRI scan.

I am so worried what the MRI is for? Is it used for cancer diagnosis? It wasn't my usually gP and they weren't particularly helpful.

I had the bloody test done at the first scan and it said within normal parameters but doesn't exclude malignancy.

I am not sure if I am higher risk due to several years or IVF treatment. I am 40 years old and no history or ovarian cancer in my family.

First said said suspected Hemorrhagic cyst.

I am so worried and having panic attacks and suffering from PTSD from my last hospital experience.

any advise?

  • Hi Vugigi,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand your worries here particularly as it sounds like you've been through a lot already and you perhaps don't have much information to work with at the moment.

There is some information about MRIs on our website here which may be helpful.

In terms of your other questions, it may be useful to talk things through with one of our nurses. If you'd like to do that, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope it's not too much longer to wait for your next appointment. Some people say that while waiting it helps to keep busy to keep your mind off things as much as possible.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
