Possible Cervical Cancer - all the symptoms

Hi all,

I'm posting here as have been reading on some of the forums but cannot find a suitable match for my situation. I've also seen how supportive everyone is and could really do with some gentle reassurance right now.

I had my son 3 years ago and on returning to the pill, I was prescribed Rivegedon. I didn't get on very well with it so after about 6 months, I was prescribed microgynon which I had always taken before, 3 months back to back due to endometriosis.

Around 2 months in to taking the pill, I noted some bleeding which had never happened before and when I googled it, I put it down to levels of hormones. Months, years passed and I kept getting this two monthly bleeding which in time, gradually became more frequent to one month. Intermittently I would also get this thick, yellow discharge which smells horrendous and sometimes white discharge in a bowel movement. In the last 4 months, the bleeding has happened every 2 weeks so I thought it was time to book myself in to the doctor.

She examined me two/three weeks ago but was bleeding at the time so she took some swabs for chlamydia and other STIs which I know I dont have as I am married and am barely active with my poor husband.

Anyway, she rang me on Thursday to see how I was and I explained in the last week I had bled for two days, then clear for two, then bled again for two with a small darkish clot on Wednesday when I wiped. She told me my tests were negative and that I should come in for another examination as I was not bleeding that particular day.

Upon examination, she told me that she could see what she could only describe as ulcer on my cervix and wanted to refer me on the two week pathway so here I am, waiting for an appointment and fearing the worst.

Has anyone else been in the same situation or currently in the same situation? I'm worried sick and am posting as after two days of no bleeding, I'm bleeding again moderately heavy and it's set me off crying.

Apologies for the long post and would be ever so grateful for some feedback xx

  • Can anyone help? Just playing on my mind more and more and thinking it must be bad if no-one wants to reply x

  • Hi Jt86

Please don’t assume people think things are bad because you haven’t had a reply yet. You definitely need to see the gynaecologist, which you will do soon, but at the moment try not to let your mind go crazy by self diagnosing yourself before you know anything. I’ve had cervical cancer twice so know a fair bit about it and there could be an explanation other than cervical cancer for your symptoms-don’t jump to worst case scenario immediately! If I can be of any help to you,I’ll do my best. x

  • Thank you so much Minska, I really appreciate it and sorry to hear that you have had cc twice.

Can I ask about your experience? What were your symptoms? I completely appreciate it if you'd rather not discuss xx

  • Hi Jt86

For me it was post menopausal bleeding, which is always a concern. That was the main thing but I had a lot of pelvic pain, leg pain and lower back pain with a watery discharge.

Although I’ve been through this cancer twice in less than 2 years I’m doing fine now and not on any treatment. xx

  • Hi there

I have joined this forum because I have seen your post, first of all I hope your ok, I'm going to tell you my story as it's very similar to yours... so end of nov/dec last year I had abnormal bleeding, it was always after my periods that were always regular every month same date give or take a day, but after my 5-7 day cycle I would have this light pink discharge, I also had huge blood clots on my period but just thought they was normal as google said it can be, my discharge smelt horrendous to, so on the 11 jan this year I took myself to the doctor who said she could see something on my cervix about the size of a 5p and referred me to the Gynecologists on a emergency 2 week appointment, I saw the Gynecologists and she did a colposcopy and just as she was coming out of the vagina said she could see something and that's were problems were coming from, she took 5 biopsy and said that she thought it was VIN 3 but on the 31st of jan this year I was diagnosed with stage 1 Vaginal cancer, it was very small and had started only in the vagina I'm 38 and it's very rare under 60 more rare under 40, I had it cut out on the 18th of March I only needed 3 stitches and a fraction of chemo/radio my surgeon removed it all but he said there maybe tiny particles the eye can't see so that's why I had a fraction of treatment it's been tough and I have the worst health anxiety you could imagine, but you honestly find the  strength...day by day I'm getting my life back it's put me in early menopause but that's fine I have 3 healthy children and was sterilised 8 years ago the radiotherapy has ruined my ovaries so I no longer have periods but I'm just thankful that it was caught very early, I will pray you are ok, but trust me if it's the worst you will get there it's tough I'm not going to lie cause people told me it would be and they was right, but they will do all they can to help my oncology team have been amazing even through corona I'm so grateful my operation and treatment was never put back, try not to worry cause it makes things worse and it's not going to change it even if it's not what you wanted, pls message me if you need to ask me anything cause I always wanted to know everything nothing is to silly to ask me, let me know how you get on sending you love :)

  • Hi Laura

Thank you so much for signing up to answer my question and I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I'm also so pleased they were able to treat you with all that was going on.

Can I ask where the doctor saw the abnormality as mine is on the cervix? I do feel a massive sense of dread given the different symptoms but also flit between that and a "it can't happen to me" attitude.

I have requested you as a friend on the forum if you don't mind as it would be really helpful to keep in touch.

My appointment is on Wednesday so will update you but thanks so so much for your post xxx

  • Hi sweetie

mine was on my cervix both docters said it was the size of a 5p, cause I don't mind you adding me as a friend if there is anything else you want to know just ask me!
Try not to worry I know it's so easy to say that and get anxious, the waiting is the hardest part, but try to remain calm as little as you can, have you had biopsy's.

    laura :)

  • Thanks Laura,

    I really appreciate that.

No biopsy yet as only saw the GP last Thursday who confirmed the ulcer type lesion on my cervix.

I have an appointment to go private on Wednesday but would prefer NHS route if possible. My referral is with the triage doctor down NHS route so just have to hope they call today/tomorrow.

How long did you have to wait after being referred by GP?

Biopsies scare me as everything is so tight and sensitive. I'm hoping I'll be able to have someone in with me so I can use their hand as a stress cushion xx

  • Hi babe

I waited 11 days to see the Gynecologists at the hospital

She then did a biopsy and I waited 10 days for the results, I was diagnosed on the 31st of jan, I've had to do it all on my own they don't let you take no one cause of bloody corona, I did all treatment on my own, my mum came with me to my operation and had to leave as I just walked into theatre, I was so ill though from the anaesthetic that I was not bothered! Sad thing is they tell you to bring someone when they tell you the awful news!!

What are your symptoms if you don't mind me asking!

    love Laura x

  • Thanks Laura,

That's horrendous that you had to do it all on your own. How brave are you though and absolutely amazing that you had the strength to do it, even though you were very ill. Have the doctors told you how the treatment went?

All symptoms are on the original post in lots of detail but to summarise, intermittent bleeding which can differ from heavy blood red to just brown discharge. Every now and then the discharge smells and is a wonderful yellow/green colour which normally indicates an STI but I have received the all clear for that! The bleeding started as only two months between at first (I take the pill back to back for three months) but then increased to monthly, then every two weeks and more recently happens every two days.

I'm not sure if its a placebo but now have a constant dull ache in my pelvis that worsens after a bowel movement.

    Xx
