Reactive lymph nodes

Hi all! I've contacted the doctor today and Ive shown her the lumps on my neck, there is one 2cm lump and around 3 smaller lumps on my neck. She has given me antibiotics for the next 2 weeks and by then things should go down as she has said they are reactive lymph nodes. As I am still kind If worried I wanted to ask if this is a good thing that she has called them that or is it likely that giving antibiotics is the normal thing to do when you show your doctor neck lumps. Thank you

  • Hi Charlie

If she has said they are reactive then she thinks an infection or virus is causing the nodes to swell. She has given the antibiotics to see if this will reduce the swelling and it should. If not she will probably organise an ENT appointment to have further tests such as an ultrasound, biopsy and a camera to have a look around your throat/nasal passage.

Try not to worry as this is normal procedure. I also had a swollen node that I had an ultrasound on and it came back as normal and not for concern, I was told it may never go back down to it's normal size!

    All the best
