Panicking slightly - waiting for core needle biopsy

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to get some advice. I visited my GP as I have been having persistent itching in my breast for 2 months. I also thought I felt a change in the breast and she said she would refer me to the one stop breast clinic.

I visited the clinic on Wednesday and had an examination. I'm a bit worried that the consultant that did it was very flippant and I could tell that he didn't think I should be there but said he would order an ultrasound to make sure.

I had my ultrasound, and it was at that point that she found something quite low down on my breast (which I could see on the screen). She said she was worried about it and took 6 samples of it.

however when I went back to see the consultant he again was very flippant and basically said it's a Fibroadenoma and it would be fine.

im just concerned as I'm not sure how he knows that by looking ( I realise that cancer usually has certain markers that Fibroadenoma's don't have). So I'm wondering if anyone has been told that it is a Fibroadenoma but then turned out to be cancer?

Thanks everyone

  • Hello Kate

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some changes recently that needed a visit to the breast clinic. It's good that you went to see your GP and that this area that the radiologist had some concerns about has been biopsied.

It's unfortunate that you didn't feel the Consultant was particularly supportive. Often Consultants will know just by the feel of the breast and lump if there is something to be concerned about so try to stay positive at the moment and hopefully the biopsies will come back with good news.

Do you know when you will have your results? If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses beforehand then you're welcome to give them a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Do let us know how you get on Kate.

    Best wishes,
