ENT 2WW what happens at appointments?

Hi all

So over the last month ive had a lump on jaw line/neck area. Because of covid no doctor would see me until the other day despite other symptoms of raised inflmmatory markers and a low grade fever since janurary. At the appointment the doctor had a feel and that same side of the neck is swollen and her face was like 'why hasn't anyone investigated you yet?' I explained that i had tried to tell them multiple times but just got fobbed off saying theres not much we can do. This doctor took my temp and it came in at 38.6. She has given me antibiotics to see if its a lingering infection or makes a difference to my temp or the lump/swelling. So she has referred me for an urgent ultrasound and to ENT. I have had to mention it to work as well which is akward as ive only been there 6 weeks but they need to know im just gonna have to cross that bridge when it comes to it.

Anyway, what happens at an ENT appointment ?

  • Hello Sammyg2010,

It looks like you have seen a very good thorough doctor and it's great that she has referred you for an ultrasound and to ENT for a proper investigation. As it's been marked 'urgent' hopefully you won't have to wait too long to get some proper answers.

There have been past discussions on the forum as to what happens at an ENT appointment as for example [@RobboS]‍ asked the same question before on this thread.  I hope this will shed some light on what to expect. Feel free also to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be very happy to talk you through this and answer questions you may have.

I hope everything goes well - it won't be long now before you finally get some answers - good luck with your appointment!

    Best wishes,
