Is it quicker to pay for biopsies privately

My wife had an outpatient CT scan yesterday, which discovered a tumour in her bladder.  While she was advised that it did not look to have spread, she will have to wait a few weeks to have a biopsy and then a further few weeks to receive the results.

Would it be quicker if she arranged a private biopsy, and then had the results sent to the NHS consultant.  Are there any risks attached to taking this approach?

Thanks

  • Hello London-Paul

We do have some information on our website here but I'd suggest speaking to your wife's Consultant in the first instance. You may find that it's no quicker paying for private tests particularly as many private hospitals have been taking on NHS work during the Covid19 pandemic.

We know that waiting for tests and results can be a really difficult time for many people and it's natural to want things to happen as quickly as possible. If you decide to stay with the NHS hospital, and it's feasible, then you could let them know that you're available at short notice if a cancellation becomes available.

I hope that your wife doesn't have to wait too long for the biopsy or the results.

    Best wishes,
